HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut judge has dismissed a lawsuit by Newtown families against the maker of the rifle used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, saying federal law shields gun manufacturers from most lawsuits over criminal use of their products.

Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis on Friday granted a motion by Madison, North Carolina-based Remington Arms to strike the lawsuit by the families of nine children and adults killed and a teacher who survived the 2012 attack. A gunman killed 20 children and six adults at the school with an (supposedly) an AR-15-style rifle.
(if you watched the news at the time he used hand guns and the AR15 was removed later from the perpetrators cars trunk)

Bellis cited the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act passed by Congress in 2005 that protected gun makers from such lawsuits. The families’ lawyers said their lawsuit was allowed under an exception to the act, but Bellis disagreed.

I'm glad theres still some common sense and logic in some court rooms and judges
setting a precedent of blaming the firearms manufacturer for what some mental case did with a rifle they manufactured would directly open the courts to cases where any automotive manufacturer could be taken to court for the results of impaired drivers operating the cars they build, or knife manufacturers for any suits because someone slashed someone else with a blade ETC.
ITS NEVER THE MECHANICAL DEVICE<AT FAULT!
ITS THE MENTAL DEFECTIVES , OR CRIMINALS,MIS-USE OF THE DEVICE, that causes problems

I live in CT and if I never hear another story about what happened in Newtown, it will still be too soon.
Tragedy, yes, I agree. But let's punish those that are committing the criminal acts.
I expect, like all other lawsuits, that there will be appeals, until some court sides with those that filed the lawsuit.
