connecting rod strength h vs I beam

I recall reading this Link about 2 years ago Grumpy.
I agree with the advice with powder metal rods such as us in LS X Engines.
The Guys on DC Call them Forged Rods.
They ignored as you know.
I don't know.
Few like to read.
I will if I have time to.

I expect Kabooms on DC.
Just as You Do.
Autowiz' has powdered metal rods in his LSX 376- B8.
That young guy with the LSX 376 Twin Turbo build too.

My Olds 425 is going to be Isky Cammed sensible.
Forged Rods.

The T/A 455 I have brand new custom made Crower Sportsman Forged Rods rated to 900-950 Hp.
And the set of Crower Titanium Rods rated to 2000+ Hp.

oh man i forgot you had that fancy shit in your back pocket brian... im really looking forward to the exotic metal high winding big inch big power poncho combo

grumpy I just read through several related threads on this site and your home site and I'm a bit confused here, how do I select the correct length connecting rod for my particular application, I see several different lengths and styles advertised?

well the first thing Id strongly suggest is to go with a good well known manufacturer and to select a forged 4340 connecting rod with 7/16" ARP connecting rod bolts of an appropriate strength level for the stress your likely to have the engine see with a bit of a safety margin, what I mean by that, is if your expecting to build an engine that makes 750 horse power, and spin it to 6000rpm, I personally would not generally select a connecting rod rated to only 750 hp and 6000rpm, Id be looking for a bit of a margin or cushion Id be looking for a connecting rod thats rated at lets say 7500rpm and 900 hp, simply because if a rod bolt snaps or a rod bends or stretches very bad and very expensive and noisy and ugly things happen in extremely rapid succession.
the basic rule of thumb is that you'll want a 15%-30% safety margin and the longest rod length and lightest weight piston you can afford, I generally go with the scat or manley or crower rods but there are certainly others,
pay attention to offered connecting rod bolt, upgrades these can be a super bargain, one of the most highly stressed components in any engine are the rod bolts and rods so it pays to spend a bit more on top quality parts here to lower the potential for parts failure under stress

your almost always better off buying a complete matched rotating assembly from a single manufacturer with matched and ideally internally balanced components
