Corvettes take 6 of top ten at 24 hours of Daytona

theres a great deal of interesting info in that link,
and while I was well aware of the rules restricting or outright preventing the use of effective body air foils and spoilers during the last few years,I always considered that stupid and dangerous.
its great to see the rule changes that allow the aerodynamic improvements of effective body air foils and spoilers, that make the cars far more stable and easier to predictably handle as the upper speeds easily exceed 170 plus mph.
theres sure to be aesthetically issues, brought up by those people that don,t understand the risks of an unstable car at speed.
but if your going to race at those speeds the drivers safety and control take precedent over concerns of how the cars looks match the show room cars aesthetics, and
theres no reason Chevy can't make a ton of extra cash selling add on kits with those FUNCTIONAL PERFORMANCE KIT PARTS,
I just hope they don,t start selling stupid , cheap, glue-on,non-functional, for looks only clone components

IF YOU DON,T GET THE AIR FLOW CONTROLLED AT SPEED BAD THINGS HAPPEN

Those Vette's taking 6 of the top 8 spots is a credit to the teams that Chevy is running as well as the cars. This years race field consisted of more manufacturers than you'll see in any other sports car racing all year. Aston Martin, Ferrari, BMW, Porsche, Dodge, Ford, Audi, Lamborghini, Nissan, and Mazda all sent their best contenders.

There's been a lot of regulations in most sanctioning bodies concerning aerodynamics since the end of the very high down force era of the late 80-s early 90's. The primary reason for the regulations was to increase safety by reducing the reliance on down force to keep the cars on track. This lowered cornering speeds and reduce the amount of time on track where the cars were exceeding the mechanical grip. The regulations also greatly reduced the possibility of loosing all down force by outlawing fan cars, sliding skirts etc. and raised ride heights in series like F-1 so the loss of down force due to mechanical failures like a flat tire wouldn't have as much of an affect.

Here's one where it looks like a tire blow out wrecked havoc.

its darn good to see the roll cages stand up to the crash abuse the car takes on impact ,at speed protecting the drivers compartment integrity , and the fuel control safety devices prevented a fire! (at least in those two crashes) because in the past theres been several drivers and spectators killed when those systems failed

The last 12 minutes of the Daytona 24 hour race, the Corvettes are dueling! Even if you're not a hard core road race guy it's pretty cool to see so many cars that close after 24 hours of racing.

At least the C7 Finally found a home Racing Grumpy.
I was so sick and tired of hearing about Numberg Germany .

You See the Awesome Headers on the C7 R ?
!

I would be more into Road Raving Birdman but the only Track around is Route 66 Joliet.
I was told you give them $10,000-30,000 cash to join thier club.
I am not super Rich.

Drag race at the Strip is $15-20 to get in.
Street Racing is Free.

yes and notice its a 4-2-1 design, on those racing corvettes to, maximize and widen the torque curve and several aftermarket exhaust system manufacturers are only now, starting to sell the DUAL (X) pipe exhaust systems that enhance scavenging that Ive fabricated and used for decades, as it both mellows the exhaust noise tone and broadens the rpm band while reducing back pressure if correctly designed with the 3" exhaust pipes

I like the 4-2-1 Tri Y headers Grumpy.
I also like them Super Loud.
Like All Mighty God coming to Kick Luberal Azzes & Bam's 2.
X-pipe just muffles that wonderful BBC & Pontiac V8 Roar.

Looked again this morning DC is Dead.
Having fun in the Pontiac world.
Guys are kinda Mellow.
Not as Rowdy as Us.

I watched that Corvette shootout on YouTube and it was brutal, all the way up to the finish line. I was dissapointed with the DeltaWing crashed, I believe that car is going to be a front runner for years to come. It was fast and had great handling from what the drivers said after getting out.

The Deltawing crash made the car look bad on video because other cars were going around the stalled car then WHAM the Delta plows right into it. Rumors were that there was a radio problem and the Delta driver wasn't aware there was a car sitting in the middle of the track there. I hope Nissan continues with the effort and doesn't abandon it like they did with the P 35 of the mid nineties.

Brian You can run 2 days at the Autobahn with these guys for about $400.00 or spend as little as $99.00 for a membership and one hyperdrive session with an instructor. . You'll learn a lot and have fun. They have an excellent HPDE program. Even if you only went once it's a great car guy thing. I've even just taken a rental car (4 dr Cobalt ahaha) to get on track for fun if my car wasn't ready. https://www.nasaproracing.com/events/2178

Yeah, I was paying attention and that is what happened they were having communications problems at that time and Meyrick didn't know that car was there and if you listen to his dialogue the car that passed on the inside to the left crowded him also and he had no clue the car was there and BAM, no time to react. Adding to it, it looked like that part of the track isn't as well lit as some of the other areas, and the car stalled was black also. Shame, the car was running great and from the radio dialogue, it was handling real good.

Yeah, I was looking at 24hrs of Lemans history and there was one year that a car crashed into the spectators, blew up, killing the driver and 80 spectators.

I will leave the Road Coarse Road Racing Duties to You Birdman. Your 70 Bird is set up for it.
Your in Florida and plenty of tracks.
Why dragstrips are so sparse down there I don't know.
I have more options here in Illinois for dragstrips. Road coases not really.
You could not pay me to go to Europe with the Towel heads running around. Given more Freedom and Rights than us.

I will try and watch rest of the Vids today.
My day off and working on my own. Pontiacs.

I've got the PBIR road course/dragstrip (Formerly MOROSO) about 1/2 hour away I ran the bird at regularly till I took it apart. One week I ran the road course one weekend, swapped in the 3.73 rear for Wed night test and tune on the strip then swapped rear back to the 2.41 and ran the road course again the following weekend ahahaha. Can't wait to get the Malibu on the strip.
