damn I miss the older muscle cars

I recently needed to repair an air conditioner in a newer car, if you think back, years ago most air conditioner control panels has a slide bar that was used to select temperature and a second slide bar that selected the ducts the air flow came from, if you took those controls apart in many cases there was a vacuum hose from the intake manifold that you were mechanically sliding from one location to the next that opened or closed vent duct work, depending on where you moved the vacuum feed, and what it operated.
in todays cars everything basically operates in a similar manor with the exception that you press buttons and electronic controls open or move the vacuum to control the duct work vents, the difference is that in the older muscle cars if something broke it could be traced too a leaking vacuum hose or defective vent door, in todays cars the electronic controller that effectively moves the same damn slide selector will cost you $700 or more in parts and probably $400 in labor for repairs that a dealership charges to make the repairs just so you no longer need to slide a selector bar, and have to "convenience" of pushing a button, rather that going thru all the "work" required in moving a selector switch bar

WHAT A CROCK OF CRAP!

One reason I have always looked for low mileage older cars that I could work on. It's getting harder to do anymore. There are some advantages to the new cars, but you have to figure in the cost like you speak about above.
