now its rare to find anyone who has no idea what jumper cables are and most of us have at least one set for emrergencys, but Id bet 80% plus of those jumper cables are crappy 6 ga, or even 8 ga. or smaller cheap sets from local auto parts stores.
like these

for the obvious reason of cost,
cheap sets sell for under $35 in most cases

while decent 2 ga cables can cost easily twice to 3 times as much in a few cases

visit your local welder supply and buy a 50 ft length of 2 ga flexiable welding cable,
or two 25 ft lengths then order replacement ends for jumper cables off EBAY or your local auto parts store, youll find you can build a better set for the price paid in many cases than you can buy asembled for the same cost
WHY BOTHER?
well, you might not want to believe it but the larger ga cables DO tend to work more consistantly at transfering the necessary current loads when your trying to start a car boosted from a second car, the loads can easily over heat cheap 10 ga cables and even 8 ga get to hot to touch at times

I currently have 6 sets of cables that I bought from Snap On over the years, the first set in about 1978, they cost about $40 then. People thought I was nuts. The last set was around a $100, but they always work, the newer 4 sets all have built in side post adapters and work on any setup. They have good quality clamps and connectors, they are spring tensioned so they don't break the connectors. Thankfully I've never used a couple of them and I hope it stays that way, but I know if I need them, they will work.
