Did someone used PRW stainless steel rocker arms?

Is there any experience with this rocker arms?
I'm thinking about the rocker arms with 1.55 rocker arm ratio.
I have 3/8" rocker studs.

An alternative for me would be the Comp Cams Ultra Pro Magnum, they are steel.
I drive most of the time on the street and some strip use. I drive 5-6.000 miles a year and we have no speed limit on the Highway, so the enigne works in the 3-4.000 rpm range for hours.

I have the Comp Cams Ultra Pro Magnum 1.52 rockers (7/16" Studs) on my 400 SBC. After 12,000 miles
I've had zero problems.

i know a couple people that are using them
, most of the guys have very limited mileage,
under 20K miles,
but no one has yet had any issues ,
so the jury is still out from what Ive seen
, they may be a bargain..
they may have a limited life expectancy,
I know thats not a great help, but its what I see.

Grumpy, you used the ultra pro magnums in the past as I read.
So would you recommend the ultras more than the RPW stuff (by what you know of them)?

Thanks Indy for your experience. The ultras seems to be the safier way.

I think comp cams has a kit with the right pushrods.
Thats better for me, otherwise it could take month to order the rocker arms first and finding out the right length to order them.

theres about a $130 dollar difference in price between the two options, I personally think the cost increase,
is worth the price, on the name brand parts,
simply because any increase in potential durability is going to let you sleep better,
or put a different way, youll sure have more than $130 in damages should a rocker or its roller bearing cage fail in service,
so limiting that potential may be a good investment.
roller rockers are a highly stressed component!
are the comp rockers really stronger? I don,t know for sure,
quality parts tend to cost more because quality components cost more!
but looking at both Id select the comp rockers personally,
and I'm flat broke most of the time,
but I learned long ago to wait and buy what I really want rather that settle for what I can more easily afford.

We used a set 1 time dirt track racing.
They lasted 40 laps turning 8,000
Rpms.
Did not drop a valve.
Lost 2 cylinders and 2 exhaust rockers broke.
PRW Are China made.
Look Ok but not USA made Stainless Steel.

Then used Comp Cams XD Ultra Stainless.
Lasted 6 months.
Failed too.

Then switched to Crower Enduro Stainless Hp.
Bought used.
Ran 2 full seasons and never failed.

Ultra abusive Racing Dirt track.
But you find out what the best is.

My rpm limit is at 6.300 rpm, the engine would see this rpm max 4 times a year for a few seconds.
The max rpm on the street or highways was 5.300 rpm this season, for a few seconds too.
We did some hill climb race, 3 times 1/8 mile dragrace and some race similar to autocross, all on the hobby / amateur level. Just for fun.

think it through, what are you gaining vs
the financial and time risk level, in collateral damage your willing to risk,
and what will the consequences of a rocker self destructing likely too be?

You have some Racing in mind.
Alot is based off of personal experience & seeing what works & has failed.

Stock Small Block Chevy Rocker arms are not that good.
Fine for daily drivers.
Fine for C4 Tuned Port Corvettes with mild cams like my own.

Around 270 - 280 advertised cam duration is when Roller Rocker upgrades are a good idea on a SBC.

Stock BBC Rockers are better, but almost always get ditched because they are built for max power on pump gas or race fuel.

Stock Pontiac RAIV Stamped steel rocker arms are good. To find New Old Stock is just about impossible, ran them years back & never failed with a full CC 290B6 Drag race cam.
Switched to Crower Enduro Stainless Steel.

Stock Oldsmobile Stamped steel rocker arms hold up to heavy abuse also with Hydro cams.
On my 1965 Olds 425 in my 63 Gp.

I like to see the Good stuff put into a Small Block Chevy that is going to compete, Rev up & Race to Win.
Smokey Yunick never took shortcuts on them.

Comp Cams XD Stainless Rockers should hold up for you.
Crower Enduro Stainless still 10 times better than all other stud mounted rockers .

Crane aluminum rockers are Good.
Only seen them fail eventual on Full drag race BBC with 500-700 nitrous hit shots.
1969 Camaro of Franks was on the back bumper on launch & carried out 200 feet.
Wheelie bars broke off it so Violent on launch.
Dana 60 diff I built for him.

I have extreme preduce for anything made in China.
Crap just fails at the worst time.
When on the road driving just can not tolerate accept it myself.

You want to use a Vertex Magneto.
You want to play hared like me.
All BS ends.
Punch it and race on the streets.
100 mph is just warming up the tires.

Smart move going to a Vertex Mag by the way.
One guy posted a Vid of MSD 6 in action on a Sun DT400 distributor machine.
Just terrible timing accuracy.
Think Grumpy seen on the Corvette forum I posted on.

Locked & Loaded & Dead on accurate a Vertex Mag.

No Slew rate going on like MSD.

Harland Sharp are decent aluminum rockers also.
Lots of Ford Guys use and they hold up.

Seen fail just 1 time on a SBC.
Solid Roller full Race cam was used dirt track.
Should have been Jesel or Crower Shaft Rocker layout that race engine.

Maniacmechanic, I understand what you are talking about. But I have to leave the church in town (I don'know if you use this phrase in the USA). That means put it in relationship between cost and use.
I get some extra money next month and after paying all that Christmas things for my daughter and girlfriend etc, I want to give me a present for myself. I think it would be the Alternator we was talking about two weeks ago. I will contact you than.
In January or February I should have extra money for the rocker arms update. I cancelled the PRW idea.
I'm thinking about the steel or stainless steel rocker arms from Comp Cams, if I have al little more money maybe the Crower rockers will win. All the parts would cost me the US price x 1.5 to get them. So 600$ is than 900, the 300 is for shipping, import taxes etc.

I have the Magneto still in mind, but can't find a way to fit it in the small space I have for the distributor. I didn't find an alternative solution for the wiper motor. I didn't talked to my friend who is wrenching on British cars, especially Jaguar E-Tye for the under dash idea like his cars have. He is working all day long and had no time to talk to me.

It's one area that can bite back hard on a Performance Small Block Chevy.
Inferior rocker arms for the intended application.
Everything Crane makes is very Good.
Crane Gold aluminum Rockers likely best still made.
Crower makes aluminum rockers too.
Crower known for the Enduro Stainless rockers better.

But aluminium rockers didn't last as long compared to steel or stainless right?
In racing applications Yes.
But millions have been used on the road.
Theory is aluminum work hardens.
Fail because of it.
Stainless steel has infinite lifespan.

Only decent stock style rockers are Made by Crane and Comp Cams.
Best for Hydraulic Flat tappet use.
Mild cam grind solid flat tappet use.

Comp Cams Magnum roller tipped rockers.
Not a high rpm design.
Use a stud mount Trunion ball with a roller tip.
Are affordable.
They do hold up for the right application.
No more than 350 lbs open valve lift spring pressure.
275-300 lbs open better.

3/8 studs are mild street use.
7/16" desired.

Becomes a money pit..
Have to shop carefully.
Final decision yours made.

Watch ebay for a used Vertex Magneto.
The Vintage ones in mint shape have highest $ value.
A couple of good deals last week got sold.
I would have bid & made them mine.
Tight on $ myself.
