The pros and cons of pulley belts that are segmented on the inside Vs a solid belt. I noticed that there isn't any mention of what type you are getting upon ordering on the Internet sites and for that matter it's not in any product description on the parts store's computer. No way to tell before the clerk pulls it from inventory or if it has to be ordered from the warehouse.
Is the segmented belt for certain sizes, widths or whether the belt is for fan, compressor, alt or serpentine? Lasts longer or shorter life? I would think the segmented belt bends better for smaller pulleys or on the other hand the solid belt is stronger because it's thicker or am I just over analyzing everything and it just doesn't matter either way?

I like Dayco Brand Belts Richard for V-belt pulley applications .
Serpantine belts I like Gates Brand.
They are constantly changing belt designs.
DAYCO MADE THE ORIGINAL BELTS FOR YOUR 1968 CATALINA.

The Cat was missing the condenser belt to the inside track of the crank pulley so I have to remove the alternator and power steering belts to get it on. I'm really curious why it's missing and the seller said no A/C in his ad. I would think if you're selling a car in this condition you would find out why it didn't work and perhaps mention the car has ac but not working or just fix it?
The ad that was on eBay in Sept. 2009 said it had ice cold air. The clutch spins freely however I haven't energized the compressor to see if it engages and still turns. I haven't looked yet to see if someone made the refrigerant conversion yet. I hope what it takes to get the A/C working well doesn't cost a lot, I already spent nearly $3,000 on parts for this car. And depending on the top acting quirky and the rear bumper needing alignment I maybe under water with this car.

On YOU TUBE.Everyone has their own perspective Richard.
I don't see it a wasted $$ on the 1968 Catalina Convertible.

Look at Your 1971 Corvette.
All the $$$$$ You spent and you still hate the Car.

I Remember I am a Pontiac Guy.
I don't need to kiss any Corvette guys azz on DC.
THEY ARE ALL SLOWER THAN THE HELLCATS TOO.
LOOK FOR DC STREET RACING
FIND ZERO

I don't look at any car as a keeper, at least I haven't found one yet. I had some really high end rare and expensive cars over the years and some kept me interested for a long time. I started collecting cars years ago because I planed to partially fund my retirement with them as at the time collector cars were rising exponentially fast. I was doing well until the last half dozen cars. They were the least expensive of all and in retrospect the smarter move would have been to sell them first and the better cars afterwards. I'm not the guy who wants a car that has $40,000 invested and yet could only get $15,000 should I need to sell it. Part of the thrill for me is knowing I just wasn't pissing my money away and all my time involved wasn't for nothing. I make mistakes all the time, If I didn't it means I didn't get out of bed that day. What is it said, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained?"

Brian, just wait. Corvette shortly will become separated from Chevrolet in a sense that it will be a salon line. There will be Corvettes and there will be Sting Rays (or Stingrays). The entry level Corvettes and high end super car Stingrays that start above $150,000 and be mid-engine cars is coming in 3 more model years. This is not new news, any secrete or another rumor. GM has announced this last year at the stock holders meeting, both Autoweek and Motor Trend magazine confirmed this news. According to GM, this new Stingray with a mid-engine platform will be above 1000 hp.
Don't forget that the Viper has yet to justify a profit for the company and the Hellcat has only been profitable for the dealers who mark them up.

I think they are all bench racing Richard.
I have been fowling Stock Market News Reports.
China is soon Bankrupt broke.
May take the USA Down too.
Global Recession coming.

Most Baby Boomers ON DC WILL BE BANKRUPT BROKE TOO.

That's what I like about you Brian, you're so upbeat and positive. China won't go broke, Donald Trump will pay their debt, buy their real estate and sell it back to them for a profit.
A stock market crash is a good thing. It always makes 3 to 5% more billionaires by the following weekend when the smart managers buy up market corrections at 5 to 20% discount.
Baby boomers here or there, what is the difference, who wants to see anyone lose their retirement funds and have to work part time at Walmart into your late 70s because Social Security becomes a memory.

Who's Free Money is Trump going to give away ?
There is Nothing left but Land Deeds.
We Owe China from the Last Time.
Borrowed Trillions from the Chunas.

Bam is still around till Jan 2017.
Trump has to get elected President Yet.
I like Trump.
Says whatever he pleases to just like me.

I hate asking this,
When I was ordering some accessory drive belts there was also a belt tensioner tool listed in with the belts. I installed my fair share and never used any such tool but I do measure the tension. How does this tool work and is it worth having?

Its a Bourals Belt Tension Guage.
Its been 15 years since I had it to use.

YEAH! ONLY US OLD GEEZERS WOULD MORE THAN LIKELY SEE A CRICKET GAUGE AND EVEN RECOGNIZE WHAT ITS USED FOR

belts slip when resistance, required to spin accessories is greater than than the surface friction on the drive belt surface to the crank pulley surface, keep in mind reduced diameter crank pulleys have less surface area and a defective water pump, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor or alternator will substantially increase drag loads on the belt,
if your fan-belt squeaks CHECK ALL THE ACCESSORY BEARINGS AND FAN TENSION

some of my least favorite myths

(1) you need to slow the coolant flow thru the radiator to allow time to cool the fluid moving thru it
(2) swapping from a 190F to a 160F T-stat will significantly reduce an engines tendency to over heat.
(3) removing the t-stat will cure over heating

one fact often over looked is that radiator designs vary wildly, and the number of fins per inch of surface area and width of radiator coolant flow tubes can significantly increase or decrease thermal heat transfer efficiency., fin counts vary from 8 to 22 fins per inch on various radiator designs Ive seen.
thus a radiator might measure say 18" tall by 24" wide but depending on design, and fin and tube count, might actually have a radically more or less efficient heat transfer rate.obviously the best and surest way to find out if a radiator, shroud and fan combo cools the engine effectively will be to install and run the component parts you have under the current applications limitations for real world testing and if it needs upgrading your dealing in proven facts vs guessing
ID also point out that all radiators collect crud and become restrictive to flow and much less effective at transferring heat to outside air flow over time, especially if the wrong coolant or water containing excessive mineral content are used so you might want to have yours cleaned out, rebuilt or replaced, if thats needed, after taking it out, an inspection indicates the correct course, a new aluminum radiator, in the largest size quality, radiator, that fits you can afford, is usually a good idea, if it needs replacing
