Distance Behind X Pipe?

Hey Grumpy what distance behind the X pipe should mufflers go, if you’re exiting the tailpipes in front of the rear tires?

Well it’s tight! That’s why I ask, I am going to use my existing mid length headers put a v band on them, build the down pipes to the X pipe. This will all be welded, then put another set of v bands on X pipe and if there is room the mufflers might be connected directly to the X pipe via the V band. Pipes will go straight back and 90 degree out in front of the rear tires!

You wouldn't need an X pipe that way with no restrictions and even the way you want to run them by exiting before the rear wheels you don't need a crossover because there isnt enough restriction to make that necessary

Per the video indycars posted, the flow would be less than 500, so 2 1/2 inch pipe is what I would need! Depending on the location of the X pipe I will mount a support to the trans crossmember, then to the car in the area in front of the rear tires. I know with the shorter exhaust will be louder, that is the purpose of the X pipe, and to help with scavenging also!

Depending on cost, I may still build a set of custom headers. If so, I will cut the head flanges off my existing headers and the collectors to use in the new system.

Well I am considering using a inframe prefab kit from summit and use my head flanges and collectors on my existing headers!

Not sure yet, I may make the head flanges, buy some 2 inch X 1/2 flat bar. I may use the 3 inch collectors with the kit.

I also have Pipemax for designing headers if you are interested.

Below is the "Inputs" page

Is that a internet site or is it software on your computer?

And what does it tell you?

In the picture above, I think I can use all the 45s to build it. I may have to buy some extra tubing for the 90 deg mandrel after the mufflers. I am still going to use the tips on the existing system.

Been doing some planning! I reviewed several posts and added it to my general plan. With the rough picture I provided above I did some window shopping! The listed parts are what I found and I am confident I can make it work.

I will have to go to a local muffler shop to have some custom bends made to accomplish the right degrees,
but I think it could be done easily. Considering I will have a entire custom exhaust system and parts will only be about
500 dollars. I may have to go diagonal from behind the X pipe to the exit in front the rear tires to fit the mufflers into the
equation.
The length between the X pipe and the mufflers is not actual, that drawing is not to scale or anything just a picture for me to visualize the direction I am taking in the construction.

Quick and dirty with little change from my engine. The main changes were material 1010 steel ceramic coated and 4 into 1 collector.
