does anyone know where too find a link, you can use, to easily look up the correct color codes for paint, to be used to fix scratches or paint replacement body parts, on most cars,
example
if I need to find a source of paint for a 1985 corvette or a 1974 corvette, a 2003 mercury or a 2003 avalanche and don,t know the color name, is there a place, you can look over that year cars color options or paint color codes

obviously youll be well ahead to at least know the cars complete vin number and what the factory name for the paint color is, simply telling the guy your cars a 1966 chevy and its blue or red won,t work.
here for example I looked up my wifes mercury

http://www.decodethis.com/VIN-Decoded/vin/

http://www.automotivetouchup.com/paint- ... ercury.htm

when ever you go to get parts for a car it helps to write down the vin number and look it up, if you go into a shop and order things like interior trim there could easily be several shades of, gray, white, beige, red, blue or green trim ETC. and if you don,t know exactly what your car has you could be in for far more return trips and expensive mistakes.
I pulled this info on the wife's mercury, notice its called a PARCHMENT interior and MATADOR RED

I dont know what paint system you are using but the original color code and newer paint sytem color code are not the same.
Lets say the 98 pontiac grand prix has a bright red.
Factory color code is WA8774, but for basf color name is SR179.50
If thats what your looking for i use this link(for basf system)
http://colorexplorer.rmpaint.com/index.php?language=2

If what your lookng is the original color code, i think Rick got that covered. i was also looking for this info, thanks :)

BTW you should be aware that theres usually a paint code some place on your car, as an example on my wifes mercury
the sticker for the paint codes is on the drivers door jam, WERE DT
http://www.automotivetouchup.com/paint- ... ercury.htm

and the letters are DT
I took that info to the local auto body paint store, and thy custom blend and fill spray cans if you want or will supply pain in quart or gallon cans for spray guns

FINISHMASTER 1938 church street
west palm beach florida 33409
561-684-4666
and they provided me with custom filled aerosol spray paint cans in the cars exact color for about $26

for scratches and small chips thats ok but if you need a fender or hood done go to your local auto body supply and see if they have the gun to match your color exactly that firey ball in the sky tends to fade things. Also a moto we had at the body shop blend it and send it.
