Dorian’s Big Block C3 build

Beautiful house!

My house has 5 fireplaces but you guys have me beat!!!

Only occasionally use 1 but they do look pretty.

Thanks
Randy

It gets too hot using a fireplace in the master bedroom, but then we have had nights without heat in the winter and those nights worked out.

yes a fireplace in the master bedroom (if the rooms significantly large enough) would be very nice even "CLASSY"

Only pre 1870 homes have fp's in bedrooms, modern day fire codes have prohibited bedroom fireplaces unless they are of a minimum size. Refer to local building and fire codes and now the NFPA

The 2 upstairs bedrooms have fire places but we never use them.

The other 3 are on the main floor.

I live on 5 acres with tons of firewood but my wife is scared of fire so we heat with NG.

My folks live on the east coast and use oil for heat.

Curious what you use for heat in Europe??

Thanks
Randy

Holy!!!!! I can't imagine. One in master bedroom??? That's gotta be cool

5 acres - geez!!!!! That's just awesome!!!!!!! I dream of that!

My back yard is 0.12 acres and that is considered large in Belgium. Granted, I am in a city and not in the countryside and Belgium is one of the most densely populated countries in the world.

I can't speak for the rest of Europe (I know France uses electricity for heating, for example) I use NG as do most city people, with heated water flowing through cast iron radiators. Outside of the cities people will burn kerosene but mainly due to lack of infrastructure to pipe NG.

Heh, my old house actually has one of its basement room with a padlocked gate leading to it and completely blackened walls and ceilings... that's where once upon a time they stored the delivered coal :p

BTW, I use a NEST thrermostat... I HIGHLY recomend it. Not expensive. Easy to use. Smart and self-learning. And you can turn it on and off an reprogram remotely with a smartphone.

I have had it for a number of years and have saved a lot of $$$ with it.

like in most things a bit of long range planing and budgeting helps immensely
yes I also built my shop and home on a 5 acre lot,I had the fore thought to plan for,
(one of the few really smart things I did when I was younger)
I bought the vacant lot way out in the "boon docks" in my 20s , assuming too eventually retire on it in my 60s
at the time the only access was a narrow dirt trail, and no neighbors, now 40 plus years later we have paved roads, and about 65% of the, 5 and 10 acre lots in the area have homes built

link below has a few pictures I took as we built the shop 15 years ago

well, DORIAN>
have you got the corvette YET!

Heheheh

Well, it's still in the works. Richard is pushing hard this week and next to get the corvette ready for shipping.

In the meantime I have been in touch with Silver Sport Transmissions. They sell Transmissions with "perfect fit" kits that look OEM. They are putting together a quote for me for a TKO 5-speed. I figure as this covette will see frequent highway use and 80 mph is the typical cruise speed, I think an OD trans really is needed. If the price is right, I might ask Richard to stow it (if it fits) and the corvette. That'll avoid customs and shipping in a very expensive, yet necessary I think, item.

BTW, Silver Sport Transmissions also offer hydraulic clutches. Do you gents think that is worth it? Remember, my wife will also be driving this.

Dorian it will come in around 5 to 6 thousand that's what is was for my chevelle through them. Allot of parts can be sourced cheaper but they put it together so they want to be paid for it. The kits are full of all the parts you want and some you really might not need.

Thanks !!!!

Yes. I originally asked for a 6-speed magnum kit but that came in at $6.6k including the hydraulic clutch. Pricey but I agree, it's excellent value for money. They told me the the custom bellhousing adds to the cost. So now they are pricing out a TKO for me.

So you are pleased with the kit and the performance then? Installation? Overall thoughts and appreciation?

Ever since the TT with its 200-4R, I cannot imagine skipping an OD.

What about that hydraulic clutch ?

I did not order through them I do not care about all there custom parts to make it fit in factory spots. There was also allot of parts I did not need or wanted. If you want a kit that is complete that is the one it comes with every thing you need.

Ah! I see. But you have the TKO installed. How do you like it ?
