when you look at the top combo of the 350 it's almost disappointing.. when you see

"At about 5,000 rpm the spark generating capability of a stock HEI is steeply on the way down. There are two fixes for a misfire-one you do at the track just to get you in the race, and the other you spend about $60-70 and see some real power gains. The band-aid fix here is to shut the plug gaps down to about 0.020. This will allow the system to spark and fire the charge but not as effectively as replacing the module and widening the gaps to about 0.045." - from article above

its well known that the stock HEI starts to drop its capacity at about 5000rpm and the links BOB placed should help, personally I generally either replace the HEI ignitions or use a PERTRONIX UP GRADE which tends to work wonders, don,t forget the ignition wires and coil up grades, and the basics of verifying TDC, spark plug gap, and decent ignition wire
