ED china leaving wheeler dealers

The Grumpy Grease Monkey mechanical engineer.
Staff member
now MIKE and ED were a good team,
AS the show was interesting,
(and yes they obviously skipped over or glossed over a weeks work, or even two or three weeks work to rebuild those cars, find the parts, etc.)
and it was all too obvious they had a huge TV/PROGRAM SUPPLIED budget.
and were not all that concerned with making a profit! ....on the sale of the finished cars,
and the show, made the car rebuilds, ED DID, as the master mechanic,
usually look like a weekend job, most of the time!
(and if you've ever done that job you know it can take weeks just to locate and install parts let alone do repairs , body work or interiors and fix electrical , brake and drive train repairs.
but in my opinion ED
(THE TALL GUY WHO IS LEAVING)
was by FAR ,(IN MY OPINION) the most SKILLED,KNOWLEDGEABLE,
and important partner
,
and in my opinion, mike was and is more of a occasionally annoying,
comedy relief , than a significant help, yes MIKE was putting in time and held a good deal of risk as the show was from what I've heard mostly at least originally MIKES idea.\, and ED was hired to do the extensive manual labor and provide the required skills and experience!
THE REASON, the IDIOTS on
the new AMERICAN T.V. production staff ,
that bought the program, and production rights,
want to significantly cut and reduce all the,
(DIAGNOSES AND REPAIR SEQUENCES ,
THAT MAKE THE SHOW WORTH WATCHING)
probably to make more room for additional advertizements

I'll miss that guy but apparently he's got another project in mind; or so I learned from his live FB broadcast. He's the reason I truly enjoyed the show so much. Mike could indeed be a bit annoying. I understand Edd prior to the show had quite a track record fabricating vehicles such as beds on wheels.

I did notice he neglected to note on the Camaro the the AFB electric choke needed to be connected. Hmmm. Maybe not needed in California?

Was live just a few minutes ago on FB.

Heh. He confirmed what you said, Grumpy.

The cars Mike bought were supposed to have 4 issues but they typically had 8-12 and the support crew sorted these things out off camera.

Also there was a Cadillac episode where Chip Foose visited. He's a fan of the show. He's not shown on camera but he was the guy lowering the hoist

couple of my favorite episodes
now I fully agree that they could have done FAR'' FAR better,
on both corvettes, but still it was interesting to watch

they selected that 1968 corvette with, one of the least powerful engines available,
(yeah he states its a high performance engine but then admits its a 327 camaro engine,
later he states its a 300 hp engine, but it may be a 350 hp camaro engine, as it has fuelie double hump heads.

next its a CONVERTIBLE... which has a slightly heavier frame.
ED did a good job explaining the throttle linkage issue, and carb rebuild, and touched on tuning.
on the plus side he replaced the valve seals but on a car that old swapping to new valve springs is almost a total no brainer.
yes I know theres time constraints and they don,t bother to tell you everything that was checked, but they should have mentioned checking things more extensively.
I was glad to see him rebuild the brakes, and get the head lights to open correctly,
but he should have upgraded the headlight bulbs,
then notice while working on the brakes he never checked the wheel bearings, and u-joints,parking brakes, or checked the 4 speed internals, the muncie fluid level and type of gear lube, nor did they mention that they checked the shifter linkage, nor did they mention checking the radiator, coolant pump or exhaust system checking exhaust emissions, nor did they, mention or do a compression check.
having owned and driven both the sbc and the bbc versions I can assure you the sbc 300 hp versions a faint ghost of what the properly set up BBC 1968 vette could be!
honestly the car had much greater potential, yes EVEN WITH A SBC
