Efi troubles on BBC conversion

I get the part about the proper sensor and sensor location. Since the efi has the "self learning/tuning computer, sensor data will be integral...

So whatelse I'm figuring out involves the potential problem with up taking rain water through the intake. A picture in the first link shows 1994 filter box where approximately 2/3rds of the box is changed at the factory, to address the water uptake problem. I don't know if it would fit a 91.

The other option regarding intake and avoiding engine destruction via rain water uptake is to fab a piece to draw air from the cowl induction hood. A y tube with each of 2 legs reversing back past the intake manifold to the cowl with one air cleaner on each end of the tube.

Perhaps a awkward solution at best. Jdm product.

The Very Best Air Cleaner Layout on a C4 Corvette was used on the 1990-1995 ZR-1.
They Pulled so hard so much air the flexiable according tube on the throttle body often collapsed.
Kill the engine during a WOT run.
So like shown with the JDM the aftermarket came out with Silicone rubber bellow connection between the throttle body and air cleaner.

Blocking off the air filter opening not a good idea with a Big Block Chevy.
Needs lots of free cfm airflow in and out the exhaust to perform right.

Thought about today.
The best way is to build it out of Plumbers PVC Tubing for a Master Pattern.
Plenty of Elbows of different angles to choose from.
Glue it together.

You can actually leave it and use.
But TIG Welded aluminum tubing would look best satin finish.
Polished to show shine.
Black Crinkle Wrinkle paint.
Or Powder coat to color of your choice.
With a Master Pattern made you can have it it duplicated in aluminum tubing maybe local.
If not then I can Build it for You.
Ship the PVC tubing to me.

Ok Maniac M... Thank you. This project is dragging out much longer than expected.

I'll be heading to tx sometime soon. My sister's mechanic connection is kind of iffy. Sooo... I'll probably have to get things moving by myself. It would be a trip if i could get gas monkey garage or one of those reality shows to work on it but I'm super small potatoes to them. Not to mention super small wallet lol.

I have to check Boogie into a doggie motel and go be the annoying house guest at my sisters place... oh boy.

Ok i found a shop to get the work done.

Actually there was a handful of shops that were fairly reasonable.

The shade tree mechanics were afraid of it with grave pricing predictions in the 10k area. I had provided links to video, pdfs and general instructions. Apparently they weren't interested in trying to educate themselves on the process. I would think that those with mechanical aptitude could do... Having brief experience as a educator, i understand there are those with aversions to studying. Anyway the install is going to happen.

I learned that there's something called racing season in TX. Perhaps it's a national thing but i admit my ignorance on the topic... Anyway due to racing, work on the c4 is delayed until about early May.

I don't have any intake for the 90 mm throttle body and I'll need at least a temp set up for now.

I was looking at the claw set-up and I'm curious if that's up high enough to avoid the hydrolock problem?

Otherwise maybe just throw/clamp on a cheapo filter to get operational.?!?

I wish you were local so we could work on the issue together, but realistically you would have too be driving through about a 1/2"-1" inch deep, or deeper water on the road, too realistically have a serious threat of picking up significant water from the street, and your car would loose control and hydroplane at any significant speed with over 1/4" of standing water on the pavement surface, over any distance at speed.

You can never predict the weather.
It snowed here again yesterday.
Today its all gone and will be 50 F.

I have been caught in heavy rain thousands of times now in my Corvette driving.
Without working windshield wipers I would have been dead because I would not be able to see.

These Corvettes are terrible for ingesting water.
Suck it up like a Big Hoover vacuum cleaner.

People were in ditches yesterday again on Route 80.
One upside down as I rode by in my Corvette.

Ok. Good to know grumpy.

I drove the expressway in Chicago a few thousand times. I used to live around western and Irving back in the day.

I'm thinking about that slp claw set up now. I could get a used stock set up and save a few dollars.

I'm figuring the conclusion of this topic is to watch out for rain duh! Ha ha.

There's not a lot of rain hereabouts in the Montana summers. Colder than hell in the winter and damn hot in the summer.

The whole cold air intake subject is confusing. One source says they are worthless, another loves them. Some say the k&n style filters are inferior at filtering, others say they are fine. Deep down I'm a bargain hunter and like the idea of reusable filters but then i think trying to save a few bucks could harm the engine. I'm probably over thinking this huh?

I've run the stock air filters on my 1985 and 1996 corvettes for decades with zero issues,
and while I don,t drive them on the roads after we have hurricanes and the roads are under several inches of water,
we frequently get monsoon style rain storms and there's never been any issues. so, yeah you might be over thinking this as a problem...
I'm not saying it could not happen, but with some common sense ,
and not driving through .. stupidly wet conditions..

look at this

I ordered up a used slp at a fair price. No filters included.

After some research, i learned each of the 3 branchs of the claw has a 2.5" diameter tube.

So i also ordered 3x 2.5" flange diameter bullet/cone reusable filters. The filters come enclosed in a housing which is supposed to direct air in a way that enhances the flow....ha ha ha... well the air flow thing sounds like some good sales talk at least. :p<-- me? Also the housing is supposed to keep air temps down (more gizmoesque sales talk). I also let myself think that the filter housing would aid in keeping the filter dry if rain sloshed up to the filter locations. Who knows?!?

The bottom line is i need something for the air intake stuff. So i add the sales talk mojo to the aesthetics/looks of the components and it looks cool... not too scientific i know but good enough for starters.

The claw set-up itself is supposed to add 20 hp but i doubt it. The dyno tests show a slight improvement. Some others say that a moving vehicle will gain a few more hp with a bit of ram air effect. As is this car is going to have a helluva lot of go for a rookie.

I've read some of the posts by the more mechanically inclined. I know, for the most part, I'm dealing with the most basic elementary things here but it keeps me entertained.

When I get to texas, I'm going to take a shot at the efi, load in the parameters via the wireless interface and see if i can get the critter to fire. I doubt I'll be successful but yah never know. I have the pros for the backup plan so it should be gtg one way or another. I still don't know how much of the installation is done. E.g. relays, wiring etc. Anyway I'll shut up for now. Blah blah blah blah blah

Cone Air Filters work by K&N.
My Bud Ed has one on his 8.40 ET 160mph trap speed 306 ci Ford V8 with full race ported Trickflow R Race heads with Del West Titanium Intake & Exhaust Valves. Roller Hydraulic cam with lifters locked to meet 5.0 Renegade rules, actually solid cam now.
Turns 9,000 rpms.
Vortech YSi Supercharger.
Built & Raced heavy 2003-2004.
On the end of a 5,000 " inch pipe is a Big K&N Air filter.
8.40 ET was had with the K&N air filter on.

Here i is in TX... believe it or not. Dang humid in Dallas....i still can't believe I'm here. It was about a 12 hour process with layovers. I was getting pretty irritable and Claustrophobic by the end of the day.

The car was picked up today by these two gearheads who are in the process of moving their garage. It's bare bones now with the exception of some sharp customs scattered about their shop.

The thermostat adapter didn't fit but these guys will find a workaround.

Stopped at the gas monkey bar and grill. Good customer service but the chow could have been better.

Might be a good place to get stupid drunk with the good ole boys but.... i gave that up sometime ago.

Enough to fill all 8 cylinders in seconds.
C4's & all later Vettes are Hoover Vacuum Cleaners.
Anything gets sucked up.
Hang all 8 rods out the engine from Hydro Lock instant from Rain water.

Been driving & working on mine since 2007.
He's right fuel injection will suck up water quick your engine will be hydrolocked before you know it happened. I made alot of money as a dealer tech changing rods from insurance claims
