Engine refresh

I am in need of a basic engine for my project '72 Chevelle. I just tore down a .030 over short block I had laying around the shop. Has been turned .010/.010 already. Bearings and crank look great, cylinders have no ridge and the pistons have some thrust wear, otherwise look fine to me. They are flat tops. I am doing this engine on the cheap, but want it to hold up. Not going to be a hot-rod, just a cruiser. I have some crappy 882 casting heads I plan on using to keep the c/r down to about 9:1. My thoughts are to just do a clean-up, flex-hone the cylinders, new cam and lifters, new valve guide seals and new rings. Any comments Grumpy?

given the conditions you've described I can,t see any reason you can,t do a simple engine refresh, ID suggest adding an oil pump to the new parts list, and be very sure to check ring end gap, bearing clearances, and valve train clearances, etc., and use the correct break-in procedures but other than that you should be ok

heres a good source for SBC info

Thanks Grumpy. I have built dozens of engines, just never a "refresh" or " re-ring" job. Unfamiliar territory. Usually doing whatever the machine shop recommends, using the customers money.
