Needed a new timing light, my old reliable NAPA on died. So I purchased an Equus 3568. It is supposed to have skip circuitry. I am guessing that it has something to do with detecting a misfire. No info in the owners manual and a web search came up empty. Does anyone know what this feature is?

here is the equus the technical dept. phone # at 714-241-6802/ 800-544-4124 [M-S, 6am-6pm]

youll need to call and ask because non of the posted adds tell you.
Ive got some ideas but i might not be correct so ask the tech guys that build and service the tool

Hey Paul, thanks for the info. I did send them an email a few days ago, but they are probably swamped. Guess a phone call would be better.

Well, Equus wont go down in my book as a tech oriented company. I called tech support today. Spoke with a very nice guy ( a bit of a fast talker) and he wanted to know where I heard the term skip circuitry. I said your website. Then he wanted to know if I had a 3568 or a 3568 plus. I said the tool is marked 3568+. Told me that was the old style ( the better one) and that it wasnt the plus model(?)! He insisted that there wasnt anything called skip circuitry and he had never heard of the term. Guess I will have to wait for the email response. Scary!!!

you more than likely talked to a (SALES GUY) or (TECH SUPPORT FLUNKY) not an ENGINEER, from the tech/engineering department

when I called one of the piston ring manufacturers, many years ago
http://www.totalseal.com/
to ask how you tell which side of the top ring goes up as the rings did not have the "dot" on one side to indicate (UP) like most rings do, I was told "it didn,t matter" even I knew that was B.S. and awhile later I found the back of the rings were beveled and they definitely needed to be installed correctly, I can only imagine how many engines got assembled wrong and smoked because the rings were installed wrong with that jerk answering the tech desk questions

OK, here is the answer to my email. A bit different than the verbal response from the tech line.

"This is not a function it is a feature or something that the timing light is built with. When the RPM gets higher it distributes more spark and becomes more erratic, but our timing lights have the skip circuitry that will eliminate it and read precisely. Without this feature it will stay on like a flashlight."
