ever had someone give you a hard time due to your older car

I pulled into a local gas station with my 1996 corvette and my friend drove in behind me in his 1968 firebird as we both needed to get fuel, as were both filling up, this lady about 40-ish walks over from the next line of fuel pumps and looks at my car and my friends and says, "you guys should be smart enough to know those old junk cars are polluting the air, and should be scrapped!"
now neither cars engine smokes and we both take good care of our cars...so I figured it was either a bad joke or some moron had put her up to that...but a few moments later she walks over again and says "really! why are you driving those old clunkers" I was not sure which car she came from,or even if she drove or was just walking around near the gas pumps. but there was a couple small cars in the next lane

now I have no idea whats bugging this lady, but it is such a ridiculous set of circumstances and shes acting a bit nuts,... smells like a set-up , or trap, like were being secretly filmed for something so I just smile and wave to my friend as hes finishing filling the tank , and we watch as we drive out of the station as she walks up to the next car as it pulls in, as were leaving,it was obvious she wanted an argument or a confrontation, but Ive always felt that its better to avoid obvious nuts or potential confrontations if possible, as it a no win deal, you can,t exactly start screaming at or getting into an argument with out looking like your involved and later you might be blamed for anything that resulted
the only thing I can figure is
( A) shes just NUTS or on drugs
(B) shes working some type of distraction , theft scam
(c) shes working some type of get your butt kicked, then file a law suit scam
(d) maybe a-b-and c

my friend started to get a bit upset, but I waved him off, and we left, a bit later I was talking to him at my shop over a few cold cokes, and we both figured she was trying to get something started, but neither of us could figure out just what?

Hmmm I have had discussions with people about old American clunkers - but only at cocktail parties and the like.

Oddly, whenever someone learns of, or sees my ride, I only get positive feedback.

It seems seeing a nice old car and lounge chatter wind up being two different things.

Re: ever had someone give you a hard time due to your older

Id bet the gal in the previous post was just nuts, everyone eventually seems to run into an occasional nut job,its almost 100% guaranteed to happen, occasionally if you deal with enough random people and I guess that was my day.

Run into them all them time. I attract nutty gals it seems. Problem is, most often you realize they are nuts only after a while... not at first sight. Then you think they are normal.

sounds like experience there, you must have dated a few (INTERESTING GALS) while I got married at only 20 years old I had a few encounters with gals that were obviously not running on all 8 cylinders mentally, during my dating days, some were a good deal of fun, some were manipulative, emotional wrecks, that's part of what dating is for, its supposed to allow you to weed out the total physcos , mentally and physically lazy, and crazy, and gals that would never make decent mothers or companions, and find the trust worthy and compatible members of the opposite sex

Amen to that!

Re: ever had someone give you a hard time due to your older

My brother had an encounter that I won't forget. He was with his to be wife and they were in her car 1958 Imapla and crusing thru the local drive-in. When he passes by this one guy he made the comment, "Fella, You Just Don't Rate!" He went directly home and swap cars. He had 1967 Corvette with 427cu in / 425 HP. He went back and found this same guy. It seems now the other guy didn't rate after the race.

(looks remarkably similar to this picture)

a friend stopped by with his cobra kit car, he wanted to show me some progress hes made, its got a mild 460 ford engine in it, with aftermarket cam, heads and intake and headers and an automatic transmission so its not what you might think of as a race car, but its got about 450hp and its reasonably light weight, (about 2700lbs) according to the owner.
we took a trip up to the local NAPA auto parts to get a few tuning goodies and while Im sitting in the pass seat at a light , some moron ricer who looks like hes maybe 25 years old, pulls up and revs his engine like he wants to race. my friend just grins and ignores him and we drive to NAPA, but the guy follows as it at the next intersection, and pulls in next to us at NAPA, and starts a conversation, it seems hes got a single turbo on an in line 6 cylinder, and makes about 470hp from a toyota and he can run (at least according to him) mid 10 seconds.)
we both decline to race the car , and point out that even if we won or lost the net result would be risking a huge expensive ticket , and suggest he go to the track up at moroso which is open several nights a week, and is less than 20 miles up the road, to play ,as its a good deal safer and far less likely to result in a drivers license suspension.
now thinking back to when I was 25 or so Im sure the results of such an encounter would have been far different, but both my friend an I are past 60 years old, and no longer feel the need to compete against random street cars that issue a challenge.
the guy seems pissed off, so as he drives off he punches the throttle and the car skids sideways off the road into a vacant lot! as he get out in a cloud of dust and grass clippings we can tell hes really pissed, we just pack up the parts we bought and wave and smile as we drive back to my house past him....Im thinking , darn I can think of so many times in the past where doing stupid stuff like that resulting in me doing similar stupid stuff and getting similar results when I was 19-25 years old so I guess it just part of growing up and gaining experience.
