Extended wheelbase T bucket

It was late and I was tired so that is subject to change. The front notches are all that needs to be done before I weld the side rails together. I’m going to the garage in a few minutes and look a while. The rails may be closer for the alternator bracket I was thinking about so that will need addressing.
Rick the 31” will still remain. I’ll have to kick the frame under the floor but it will be fine.

I only have 1 piece of rectangular tube on each side right at the firewall. It ties the 2 frame tubes together where the rear half of the frame joins the front half.
The 31” dimension will still be there.
All the other tubes can be made with my tube notcher.

Without a rollcage the front frame horns need to be real strong for that Supercharged Big Chevy.
Easy 550 ft/lbs at the flywheel on a bad day.
Likey 700 Ft/lbs torque.

Made real strong on C3 & even stronger on C4 Corvettes.

I have been beating my head against a wall trying to consistently get my steel clean enough to weld with my rig. I think I need a tootsie roll for the inside. I have been using emery cloth then acetone and scotch bright but it may or may not work. I may say hell with it and go buy a MIG!

My Bud Crazy Ed does a ton of TIG welding and fabricating .
Seen 1st hand what low quality steel and aluminum is to work with and weld.
Then the welding gear at $2k.

Everything costs money.
To do the best work you need the very best Materials and TIG Welder.
$10 k always.

Hey John, I have been thinking of driving up to see Rick, I could lend a hand, that’s the field I work in.

I have been a fabricator for over 30 years. Sorry, I am the guy that was at Ricks when you brought your computer over.

I remember you and would love the help. I’m new to TIG but been a welder for 40+ years. Come on up anytime. I’ll have to clean up the shop so you guys don’t see what a slob I am! Lol

Nice project, I will be following it. As far as your tig issues, if your joints are really good, clean, and tight, try just using the torch without filler rod to start
