Fabrication of a 200-4R Transmission Mount

1.It has been awhile since I have bought a bottle for home, but they should come in several sizes. I would say a medium size bottle, I don't know the exact sizes, but one thats about waist high will be enough.
3. Size 3/32 carbon steel, they should be 24 - 36 inches long.
5. You can go ahead and cut the length of the main crossmember, but leave the length to be cut for the shorts and we can cut them when we assemble it. What we need to do is leave them a little long and grind a small notch to go around the radius in the edge of the tubing. I will show you what I mean when I am there.
6. Yes, just need enough heat the material to dry the moisture out before welding it, the propane torch will be plenty.
Really, we can go get this stuff when I get there, probably be easier to cut a few costs that way.

The plug is probably the same as mine, but just to be sure, take a picture of your male and female plugs and post them to verify that.

Here is what I have for power to the welder, it's a NEMA 6-50R Receptacle.

Placed the steel order earlier today. Stock Car Steel doesn't have the cold formed rectangular tubing.

If you have your own empty bottle , the welding supply shop wont charge you a core amount.
Pretty much you wont pay $200. Instead $80 to 100 for Argon CO2 welding shielding gas Bob needs.
They will keep the empty bottle. Just give you a full one Rick.
Check around, might be surprised who has empty welding shielding gas bottles you are given for free.
Dont buy a small 10 to 15 bottle, waste of $, run out of shielding gas in a middle of a Fabrication job.
Been there., frustrating to say the least.

Nah we are going to use straight Argon. Argon/CO2 mix is used for MIG. I don't think a bottle of straight argon will be that much, at most 50 bux, they will let you rent the bottle for a month for a small charge. Do you have a Air Gas outlet in OKC Rick? If there is one there I might be able to use my account with them to get the bottle rented for nothing.

Not sure where I would check around for empty cylinder?

Do you mean 10 to 15 cuft?
Thats the bottle size Rick, that is the small bottle, we will need the bottle just about that size. That size is the same size as the O2 bottles you see people rolling around that are on oxygen masks. The next size up will come to your waist or above at the bottle and the valve will be above your waist. I just looked at Airgas's website the bottle we need is a 40 cf. The bottles are measured in cubic feet, the volume is quite a bit more than that, a 40 will hold about 1500 psi. Let me do some research and I will find out what they cost. If all else fails I will pick up a bottle here and you can pay me for it when I get there.

Dang Rick that welder must really be a dinosaur! I have not see one of those plug in ions, I will have to look at my welder, if all else fails we can remove my plug and put yours on my cable and go to town.

I am in Illinois, they like to charge $.

Staying ahead of the game is must.

That reminds me of fuel charges, seems the farther north you go the more it costs.

It looks like lady luck is on our side, I just checked my welder and it looks like my AC/DC machine will plug into his receptacle. Mine just looks different, below is the new extra I had with my welder in storage.

My last materials order came in today, but not all of it pertains to the
transmission mount. The SS 1/2" tubing is for the fuel system, if you
look closely, you can see I have already tried a 37° flare to see how it
was going to work.

Busterrm......see you Thursday !!!!

Hey, I could have fun with all that stuff! I have the TIG dry rig, went and got my welder after work, and we don't need the tungsten I have two. I will be there probably between 6-8 pm. It depends on when I get on the road!

The wife has parent conferences on Thursday(5th Grade Teacher), so she will be not be home to eat and then straight to her party. I say that because we can eat whenever you get here.

Great that you have some tungsten, but on that subject....don't you need a special grinder for the tip???

So how do you feel about welding in the rain??? :p Were expecting a little.

Nah, the tungsten will sharpen on a regular bench grinder rock. There is one in the torch that needs touched up and I have two new 1/8 2% thoriated. I was checking here at home and I do have a full box of 7018 - 3/32. So only things we will need is the shrouds and tig wire. Depending on what happens tomorrow, I may have to delay driving up till Friday morning. There is rumor that they want us to work til 5:30 pm, but I am not sure if its true, neither does my supervisor. So, I will let you know tomorrow. If we do work that late it will put me too late to get the argon, so I will pick it up Friday am on the way out of town. I will be bringing some angle iron and casters to put together a roll around dolly for my welder, we can plug it up and check the power putting it together.
Oh, the rain won't hurt us as long as we are inside in the dry. Let it rain, we need it down here real bad!

Oh yeah, need to ask this, what PSI will your air compressor carry? I may be bring a few air tools with me that will aid us in the assembly.

No problem, let me know when you can.

Max=135psi
12.4 cfm @ 100 psi
Okay thats cool, that will carry the air tools. That rumor may be just that a "Rumor", a few instigators are in every work place that like to start false rumors.

No time to really talk, but Bob has been here since Thursday evening about 8pm. Got around
Friday morning and bought some supplies, otherwise been working all the time.

So a few pics to for your amusement.
