Fire Victim 700r4?

2nd gear is going out in my 700r4 so I've been looking for a replacement. A friend of mine had a vette that had an engine bay fire and kept the drivetrain when he junked the body. The fire was hot enough to melt the distributor cap , wires, hoses, etc. away , but doesn't seem to have been directly on the transmission ( no exterior blackening). I'm sure it still got plenty toasty I would imagine. Could the tranny still be good(i.e. not in need of a total overhaul)?

I'm no expert here but they are made to run hot what I would worry about is melted seals and O rings either put it in and try it or tear it down

yeah, it might be ok. if the fire was confined to the engine bay area
