Do You mean by checking on steel V-blocks or homemade V wood blocks well oiled up ?
Should see measure .001" or less.
All cam lobes should measure same heights.
Ground perfect down to micro inches.

Cam bearing joural installed in the block and running oil clearance with all 5 cam journals should measure .001-.003 ".
What I recall from the paper back Clevite bearing catalog I have listing all specs and running oil clearances.
Same for most GM Engines.

Are you referring to runout on the cam journals? If you are, you shouldn't have any runout. What kind of fixture are you using to measure runout?

Over torqued my arp 8740 rod bolts on 3 rods by using the wrong spec line on the sheet. Expensive oversite, 54$ for 6 bolt replacement.

Hand write all your Torque specs on a sheet of paper.
What I do. Memorized then for me.
Still refer back to crosscheck.
Check off sign off on each step.

Can Print off your torque specs also from the computer.
Again checkoff sign off on each step.
FOOLPROOF.

always carefully read instructions that come with all components, you may be amazed,
but most manufacturers would prefer not to hear that you've had problems,
so many provide detailed instructions on correct installation and maintenance.
yes you can find non-name brand rod bolt stretch gauges from about $50-$80

Yes have a good torque wrench and an inexpensive stretch gauge, still cant fix stupid when operator uses wrong data. calling arp and scat tomorrow to replace my mess up.

I have 2 flex-a-lite anodes, 1 will go in the radiator drain, I can not find any place that the other will fit in the block or heads. looked through threads and can find written mention of placing in block but no pictures or description of where. It is too long to fit, what am I missing?
