I wonder what handgun he used ,
and if he hopefully placed a few lethal hits on the mugger?
theres zero doubt the assailant was running at him and his family with a gun pointed at them, in plain sight!
making this an obvious justified lethal response, obviously need ,to use lethal force in response, to prevent potential immediate loss of family member life.
and he should get out of any inquiry with zero legal hassles unless he's,
in a LIBERAL , LEGAL ,HELL HOLE like,
new jersey, Connecticut, CALIFORNIA OR ILLINOIS, or Hawaii
this is also why you want to think about how you carry, ease of access, and selecting a cartridge that will stop an assailant rapidly with less than ideal shot placement
this guy had no time to use sights properly, Id damn sure want a 4" 357 mag,or 41 mag revolver or a 10mm, or a 45 acp pistol in a similar confrontation.
notice the range was under 20 ft, and he had less than three seconds to respond defensively
and I doubt he had time to fire more than two/three shots

thinking about the video, if I was in that confrontation, I think my glock 10mm,
would be ok,
(keep in mind he only had time for a couple not particularly well aimed shots)
but I can,t help thinking a ruger Alaskan in 480 ruger might be marginally better,
at least you know even if this mugger wore body armor,
he would be going down with broken ribs ,just from the impact energy

the FBI screwed up, they knew well ahead of time they might be in for a violent confrontation, yet they failed to arm themselves accordingly
if they had grabbed appropriate body armor and weaponry ahead of time the results and personnel losses would have been, in all likelyhood,
far more favorable,
arming the agents with M1 carbines or AR15s would have put them on a toe to toe basis
