florida love bugs

down in florida at about this time of year we have billions of love bugs in swarms in some areas, these are a real P.I.T.A. as the numbers can be amazing, the whole radiator can get clogged, causing the car to over heat, the windshield can turn almost into a yellow slimy panel of gooey crud mixed with parts of bug that look like a million splattered mosquitoes. at times the clouds of bugs look like smoke in the road and if your cruising at 70mph it won,t take long to collect a couple ounces of the little bastards smeared on your windshield making clear vision a joke, wipers just smear them,

you just need to stop and wash with a couple of gallons of soapy water every few hundred miles,
most Florida turnpike exit ramps on rest stops have optional overhead water spray bars, you have the option to drive under with motion sensors that spray water on your car to help spray off and wash the little bastards off,
(they don,t work well but may clear off enough mashed insect, bodies, so you can see through the windshield) because if you leave them sit in the sun for a few days the smeared crap eats paint , wash them off with warm soapy water in a few hours time , from the time of impact , and they are a pain in the ass, but no big long term problem, especially if you used the protectant surface over your paint spray , linked too below which leaves a clear easily removed film on your paint that acts like a sprayed on layer or film of a semi plastic like,or saran plastic wrap like film ,The Love Bug Solution™ spray creates a cellophane like spray on barrier that protects your vehicle from Love Bug Damage! don,t forget to use rain x on the glass as the love bugs won,t stick well, with a heavy coat on glass, btw some people have used PAM cooking spray or WD40 or SILICONE LUBRICANT as a protectant spray, it doesn,t always work and can screw up some paint surfaces

a couple dollars worth of fine gauge fiberglass repair screen, purchased from a local home depot ,lowes or hardware store and stretchy rubber cord can be used, with some fabrication skill to form a protective shield for your radiator fins, and grill, it may not look great but it may save you a great deal of repair time and money

A GOOD 5 GALLON BUCKET OF FULL OF WARM WATER

A SOFT WATER PROOF PLASTIC BRISSEL BRUSH

A full OUNCE OF DAWN DISH WASH LIQUID , in a 5 gallon pail of warm water,
mixed in , is used at the first opportunity , as it helps remove the little bastards body parts
but be aware the longer you wait to clean off the smashed bugs the harder it becomes to do without damage to the paint surface
