I have been reading the threads here for years . Amazing knowledge base . This site has saved me a lot of money. I’m currently trying to pick a bbc combo . I have had the 12.1 302 Chevy mentioned in one of the articles . Race car with a tag on it type of deal . That’s why I’m going the bbc pump gas route for my 1968 Camaro . I love the Ls engines but I want a bad ass bbc . Thanks to everyone especially Grumpy for the info . I work as a locomotive engineer so my time is limited for my hot rod . Im usually bouncing from zip code to zip code when I would rather be wrenching on my car.
 
Welcome the forum Timothy from Oklahoma! Hang in there, looks you are only about 9 years
from retiring and working full time on your hotrod.

The National TBucket Alliance (NTBA) nationals will be the Townsend TN next June, you should
stop by and look at the hundred or so TBuckets. There is almost always an open seat when we go
on a cruise.

Nothing like 500 HP in a 1600 lb car.

yeah>I spent decades in my younger days trying to learn how to do as much as I could,
about how things worked and what machinists, engine builders mechanics and tuners do,
and could never understand, the all too common ,mental attitude I found so prevalent, that

"If we teach you whats involved, or how to do something...
theres no reason for you to pay us excessive labor and machinist fees "


thats one of the main reasons I set up this web site! to give everyone a good start, and a way to avoid the bull "S#1T "
and attitude that was based on, "IF I keep you ignorant you have to pay me"

I always felt that helping as many people as possible to learn about and enjoy the hobby was the goal,
(probably why Ive been busy but generally mostly broke, but I sleep well knowing Ive helped hundreds of people
 
Thanks Grumpy for the knowledge . Most people in my area keep there speed secrets hidden.
They must like the feeling when they do share there knowledge.
Maybe in the past they told someone about a combo and they regretted it for some reason .
I think knowledge is for everyone. The more people involved the better.

Not if it involves winning money or races. You have a lot to learn, Grasshopper. Not many folks like Grumpy and a few others on here. My knowledge is priceless, but I do share some once in a while.

Always remember--everyone has secrets and there is a reason behind everyone of them.
 
its been my experience that about 90% of the guys racing cars,\
are basically reliant on someone else;s knowledge and skills,
to keep the car running well.
a couple friends maybe, a shop promoting the work they do, with a machine shop and several mechanics that work on the car in slower times
youll rarely see a lone guy consistently win races at several track's, who does all the work on his own car, it just takes too much cash flow and time
look, in todays world, it takes a couple 5 gallon buckets stuffed full of cash,
every few weeks if your going to be competitive,
and easy access too, or having a skilled trusted machine shop.
now if your willing to just have a very fast second performance car... one ,
you, don,t need for transportation,
one you can play with on weekends in your garage, and maybe race on weekends of your choice..
A car that can be worked on as time and cash flow permit.:D..
that can be done on a much reduced budget,
and its not something that demands you keep shelling out cash even when you can,t really afford too do so.
the key there is understanding how things work, what needs to be improved,
and developing the skills to trouble shoot, by isolate and test, and use of logic.

And never use your daily driver to race with as it will be broke down at the track when you need it the most. BTDT and learned from my mistake.
