Free to me Winnebago motorhome project

Well today I'm picking up a new project...
It's a 1989 winnebago class c motorhome, sitting on a ford econoline chassis.

Powerplant is a ford 460 bb...

Story behind this project, this belonged to my family, it had some water intrusion in the roof that caused the rear inside roof to collapse.
I think that part will be somewhat straight forward, however the fiberglass paneling on the sides has delamination to the point where i think it's best if i fully remove it to ensure all damage can be assessed.
Good opportunity for a color change as well.

I have an air system i put together in order to paint the vette (quincy qt54 2 stage, and about 100 feet of air system to cool and dry the air), and a 3m accuspray gun setup that i need practice using before i decide if it will get the vette painting job.

The hardest part of this project i think will be the replacement of the fiberglass sheeting on the sides since I'm not finding much on the actual replacement procedure...

Your staying Busy !

Try a You Tube search.
Not every Video is google searchable.
Seems to depend upon how popular the Vid & how many views on it.

A few of my own You Tube Vids went Viral.
My Vertex Magnetos tests did & so did the 1963 Gp with Olds 425 Power.

as always, posting several clear pictures would be helpful:D

Yeah, i get bored easily. :D

I'm going to pick it up here in about an hour or two, I'll get some pictures soon.

I'm pretty stoked about this, i love camping but i can't get my wife to pee into a hole, or the bushes.
This thing has a decent sized bathroom and a shower!

Just got her home, i have to clean up the yard, clean the carbs on the old boat, put the boat away, then put the motorhome into my yard, then find an oil leak ok the old vette, and then i can start looking at the motorhome...
Lets see how far i get today... lol

The subject!

And I'll keep searching on youtube, i see the driver side at a minimum needs to come off completely to replace the underlayment plyboard.

And i absolutely hate the color and graphics.

I'm thinking a darker grey color for the entire thing...

I have worked on alot of Motorhomes as a mechanic.
Never the Structure repair.

Example of the worst spot

I did a cabin boat with an aluminum hull a few years back.
For the most part they are close, just the motorhome should be a little cheaper for materials should i need any framing stuff.
As of now, i don't know if i have a metal or wood structure for the rv, I'm hoping for metal, but expecting wood...

Its probably Very Similar to Corvette Fiberglass Repair.
Have to determine if its SMC Sheet molded fiberglass or older woven strand or hand laid fiberglass.
Different repair materials & techniques used.
Grumpy knows alot about.

SMC has been around quite along time.
Shaker hoodscoop on Trans Am is SMC 1970-1981.
Started on Corvette about 1979-1980.

Probably a combination.

The Ford E series Motorhome will have Front Kingpins.
Important to inspect them with front wheels off the ground.
Fairly easy to change out.
But need a Reamer to final size them. Still have it in my toolbox. Bud Bob got from his machine shop work for me.
They are small compared to a Semi Size.
Should not have to beat out with a 20 lb sledgehammer like a Semi truck....Real he man stuff.

Sounds like it should be an experience, i do have a harborfreight 20 ton shop press should i need to pull the control arms.
I converted it to pneumatic crushing power...
After i did the bushings on the vette, i have been using it to crush beer cans paper flat, and the occasional penny... :D

No upper & lower control arms or should not be.
Heavy Duty Chassis like a Semi Truck or School Bus.
Should have a solid front axle with King Pin Layouts.
Near ever antique car and truck used King Pins.
People not greasing them they wore out the King Pin Bushings.

why not start a post on how you converted the HF hydraulic press to use air pressure??

Yeah, i found a YouTube vid about this a while back, harborfreight sells a air powered 20ton jack...
It's awesome.

Drop in once you remove the return spring assembly.

Picture!

Also i found the oil leak on the vette...
This probably needs it's own thread but the recent K&N oil filters are apparently total crap.
Leaking from the rubber seal/
gasket.
I bought a wix filter to fix it....
I'm VERY annoyed with K&N
This is the second filter that had this issue.
The last one was about a year ago, i thought it was a fluke...

The K&N Air filter was over oiled. Have one on my 87 Corvette. If I over oil after cleaning it drips Red oil.
