I have a 1989 C4 Corvette, the service engine soon (SES) light would periodically light up.
Based on service code the EGR valve was the issue. I replaced EGR value.
After replacing the EGR valve the corvette was run for about 10 miles and the SES light came back on, when the corvette was stopped and then restarted the SES light did not come back on. Drove about 20 miles and stopped to get a part. Restarted corvette and was accelerating to get on freeway when corvette shut down. Corvette started twice but would not stay running. Third time corvette died and would not start again.
Corvette was hauled home and I started checking it out. Sprayed ether into the intake and car started but would not stay running. Did not check the fuel pressure – just thought the fuel pump had gone out so replaced it.
Corvette will crank if ether is sprayed into the intake. While idling; if you press the gas pedal the engine dies. Was getting an error code 44 (lean exhaust) but following clearing this code no other codes display. I figure this is a fuel issue but not sure why it is not getting fuel.
Can anyone provide the next steps I can take to correct or find the issue(s)?
