Funny Story, Well I Think It Is . . .

I didn’t share this story of something I did last year.
Some might remember that my bucket list car has been a S560 Mercedes for many years. I torture myself every now and then just looking at those that are for sale. In 2019 a base model was $105,000 any little thing adds to this amount. Just with a few “must haves” and it’s an easy $130,000 car, 4 years old and that same car is about $69,000.

So last September I took a friend with me to look at a 2015, S550, a slightly different MB, but sweet non the less! I was turned off by the guy selling the car, he was bent out of shape when I sat in the car and removed my mask (it was bothering me). I understand, he has his rights and I was a stranger to him. The Benz was great, I just wasn’t in the mood, but the guy I brought with me knows these cars and when he discovered I was about to walk, he went for it.

He “warned me” this was a great car and this wasn’t going to get away. Nope! Just wasn’t feeling like it, maybe because within weeks from then I would be in a world of shit health-wise and be in the hospital for a month - could that be it?

I reminded him the price was good only because the warranty was only a year left and private party sales don’t allow for MB extended warranty purchase. He didn’t care, it was $5,000 under market! Ok!

I did get my 2nd on my bucket list but he has been rubbing it in my face how great this car has been this last past year. The warranty ran out on the 9th of this month. The mileage still well under the limits, he only takes it out under certain occasions, I would be driving it like I stole it and can’t be caught!

Last night he tells me about another new problem in the last 2 weeks. This time the cars’s CPU went bad, has to be replaced, $7,800. Last week he was going to the clubhouse when a truck threw a piece of retread back at him destroying the left front headlight, $3,675. That went through his insurance.
Just 3 days after the warranty was up the air ride system failed and had to be towed because the car sunk down too low to drive, $4,400 he opted to replace everything so the dealer had to cover it all for the next 7 years.
I just thought about the poetic justification karma so graciously returned upon him when he blasted me for what I spent to get under the deadline for extended maintenance warranty on my car. He had to rub salt in the wound my wife carries over me getting this car - he said in front of her “Gee, that had to be the biggest sucker bet paying for repair insurance like that!”
That just gave her more to complain about, God only knows how many people she repeated that too! o_O

They are huge money pits Mercedes Benz and all the exotics.
Even Corvettes are.
C4 Corvette has been the least

Just on a C5 it’s more than $2,000 to replace the clutch. If the MB had a clutch it would be over $5,000. Just look what the 60,000 mile service cost on a Ferrari, well over $33,000 this year.
