Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

back in the days when I had my 1965 lemans with a muncie 4 speed and a dana 60,(various rear gear ratios) powered by several various 496 BBC engine configurations, I had a really great time "barely" beating the local guys, the skill came in being able to just keep about 4-6 feet ahead of them crossing the lights at the end of the 1/4 mile so they always wanted to get a re-match, back when sunoco 260 cost 42 cents a gallon and $50 was a decent bet to win, as it was about 2-3 days pay

Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

i remember racing for fun or when you really wanted to get someone good you would race them for a tank of gas! nowadays $500-$5000 dollar bets between drivers are frequent and all the side action easily adds up to another $5k-25k

Back in The Day Phil I left Twin Track Posi Tire Melted Blacktop acoss ever intersection for 200-300 feet in every small & large town (20,000+) with my 1970-1/2 Trans Am 4-speed Ram Air 4 455 Ci Real Race cammed, shake the fenders & ground at idle & up to 8,500Rpms.
I even left Burnouts in front of one Five O shop.
Having cofee & donoughts they were.
Gone after hookup at 160 mph.

Yeah I love Fast too.

Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

for people considering an LSX swap into a car that didnt come with one originally, these folks seem to have every combination of accessory n every position one could hope to need!

p.s. grumpy theyve got BBC serpentine conversions too!

Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

a company that doesnt see alot of magazine print but is making big waves in the lsx community is tick performance with their custom and unique camshaft designs making big power... i think customer testimonials speak greater volumes than magazine pages and these guys are apparently batting 1.000 with the lsx community

Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

What are Used LS9's selling for Phil ?

Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

I have seen used LS9 Ti rods on Fleabay.
$1500 Could have bought all 8.
Dont know the story why they were up for sale.

Ti rods show up on Racing Junk .com at times.
Pro Mod Guys selling .
Most are BBC. Sometimes SBC. $2-5 k range for all 8.
Long Rods.

Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

never seen a used ls9, but i wouldnt want one simply because of the aluminum block... i would drop all the rotating parts in an iron block and work with that.... or upgrade to an LSX block and get some 6 bolt heads and go real big.

Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

by the way a new ls9 crate motor is like $20k from jegs... fuck that

Re: Gen III/IV Destrokers, Parts Interchange, Cylinder head

If you can save $500- 1,000 per week and budget just for the LS9 Iron Race Engine alone I would call the project Doable and Completed in 2015.
Still have to build the chassis, transmission, rearend, Race coil shocks- race struts, Safety gear, roll bar monkey cage to run more than 1-2 passes at NHRA Tracks.

In the past I could budget that much for RACE.
The sidejob work is not there anymore.
Its gotten so bad I dont even Pursue on Digital Corvette Forum or here on Grumpys site.
Been concentrating on my 5.0 friends in Joliet & people they know.
I am part of thier sucess building the 8.8" rears for sub 8-second 1/4 mile times.
They have not forgotten me.
A few local friends keep me busy on daily drivers and diesels.

Dont know if the good days ever coming back.
Probably not.
Muslum Bam Bam & Commi basterds ruined near all.

Reality has a way of knocking your cock off.

It comes down to this normally aspirated or Turbo power adder fun ...

Tall deck BBC.
LSX - LS engine of some form.
Pontiac 400- 455.

Pontiac is most affordable. Hard to believe but run the numbers and parts actually required, what can be reused. Possible upgrades easily made on the Top end after shortblock built.
Camshaft swaps and cylinder head swaps done in the car in just 1 afternoon .
Want High compression 12.0-13.0 :1 swap just the heads.
Want piss water burning 87 octane swap back to factory 8.2-8.4. :1 heads.
No other engine ever made like a Pontiac V8.
Unique.
One just ran a 5 second 1/4 mile time on supercharged methonal alcohol a few weeks back in a Slingshot rail dragster on Performance Years Pontiac Forum last month.
Amazing.

LS Engines flexable.
5.3 V8 has 1,000+ Hp for little $$.
You know it too.
$300 around me used.
