on occasion we all screw up and get GUM or TAR on our feet and get that on our cars rugs
now theres a couple products that will dissolve most types of tar and gum below , a clean shop rag and a soaking in those products tends to work on many surfaces

Toluene and other stuff like Xylene and ALCOHOL can be used on some stains, but they can and do remove colors or dissolve some plastics and paints/finishes

another route is to buy DRY ICE from the local market if its available and place it over the gum or tar and once its frozen solid, you can crack it up with pliers and vacuum it up while its brittle. but BE aware some VINYL, glass and plastic surfaces become very brittle also, so take care, when using that method
