Good News on the job front for me!

Grumpy understands. Rick and John too.
Unfortunately, it's this type of thinking that ends up leading to that
lowest common denominator work ethic. Everyone gets a gold star,
equally. They forced it upon the schools (can't think of the name*), but
now look what we have - generations that have learned to do as little as
possible. And let's not forget about ENTITLEMENTS. That breeds that
type of thinking.

That's why forums, such as Grumpy's, have a purpose. It gives thinkers
a place to gather and discuss ideas, and sometimes just vent about other things.

* maybe it was Common Core
Whatever they called it, it was when they stopped grouping the students by
test scores, so that poor little Johnny's feelings didn't get hurt. They killed
the gifted students programs. Remember when certain "smart" kids would
jump up a grade or 2, because the teacher actually saw that the student was
bored - not challenged?

In any group of people, no matter how you divide them up, you are going to have
some that grasp the material faster, and some slower. The best the teacher can do
is to teach to the middle of the group. What happens is that the faster ones are
bored (and sometimes get labeled as troublemakers, or have A.D.D.), and the slower
ones are lost and fall behind.

Now they are trying to get the kids in school at age 3, because "somebody" thinks
that the school system can do a much better job of raising your child than the
parents (well, that may be true in some cases). It all went to s*** when the world
went on a 24 hour schedule, and both mommy & daddy had to get jobs just to make
ends meet, leaving ???? to raise the kids.

OK, my rant is done.

if you really do the research and think things through, looking for cause & effect, the basic CAUSE of almost all problems is..
GOVERNMENT GREED! and the POLITICIANS UNQUENCHABLE,
desire to CONTROL YOUR LIVES FROM EVER ASPECT.
before about 1930 most moms stayed home and raised the kids dads worked to support the families.
but a combination, of women learning they could work and support themselves after the experiences in WWII, where they became a much more significant percentage of the factory and clerical work force and EVER INCREASING TAXES, LICENSING, and GOVERNMENT regulations
resulted in a much lower standard of living unless women added to the families income stream.
POLITICIANS LOVE ECONOMIC INFLATION AS ITS A HIDDEN TAX THAT CONSTANTLY FORCES YOU INTO HIGH BRACKETS

Ummmm

Baaaaack on topic, here...

Bob, careful with the office chemistry. The kid is 22... try talking to him. I am not saying back down, but this has to play out as you being fair in the eyes of all the rest of the team. You don't want to alienate them - you want a smoothly operating bunch.

Later pull him aside and tell him that there are reasons for such rules. Accidents do happen. Insurance companies will decline to pay if safety rules were not followed. I have seen that time and again. Furthermore, you (as manager) will be called into question if the team is loosey-goosey about this. Finally, yer in a small company. It cannot afford to take hits because of small instances of neglect that can snowball. Please... I'm not trying to be an asshole here, put your steel tips on!
