Hi all,

I am a 26 year old from Virginina with a passion for vettes working for the military as a Network Engineer in Qatar for the time being. I currently have 2 vettes with a dream of trying to own one from each generation in my garage. I currently have a 2006 silver convertible and as of last Monday now also own a 1991 Black Coupe.

sounds like a good start on your collection, GOT ANY PICTURES?
or projects your working on when you get back to the states?

I am extremely happy with the 91 Vette purchase.

I would say near identical look wise. I am looking to upgrade the engine a bit. Of what I can tell, the only modification the previous owner has done was upgrade the exhaust. I am not sure what he upgraded it too. Any suggestions on where I should start to try to get it more closer to the 300hp mark?

that depends on your skills, access to tools, knowledgeable friends to help, and your budget
the biggest gains are adding a 3.73:1 rear gear, a 3000rpm stall converter, better cylinder heads and a larger cam
when your referring to street/strip combos , the one thing that you'll eventually notice is the similarity of the successful engine combos, most use a 3000-3200rpm stall converter or manual transmission and a 3.45:1-3.73:1 rear gear ratio, a 350-427 displacement SBC and a decent set of cylinder heads that flow over 250 cfm at .500 lift, an intake that flows similar flow rates and a cam in the 226-236 duration range at .050 lift and a static compression ratio that matches the cam to give about a 8:1-8.5:1 dynamic compression ratio, naturally the larger displacements tend to have a slight advantage.
the major problem most guys have is cash flow, a decent shop like http://ohiocrank.com/chev_sb_shortb.html
can build you a decent short block, add some good heads and a cam and your most of the way there!
(provided you do the necessary research to know what you need to order)

I am not really looking to do track with it, I just wanted a more respectable hp/torque getting cranked out of the engine. The first thing I was looking to do was air intake and exhaust. I am looking for a good sounding exhaust with quad tips, always liked that look on the vettes. Any recommendation?

heres is one of the best commercially available exhaust systems Ive seen, but I usually suggest adding an additional (H) pipe just in front of the muffler entrance point vaguely similar to this, but without the (Y) in the exhaust system, any decent muffler shop or welding shop can easily modify the system like that during the install process

tp both mellow the tone and further reduce harmonics

OK just need your opinion on this one Grumpy. I took out my 91 and stepped out to open the gate I saw tons of white smoke with a bad gasoline smell coming out of the exhaust/back that almost made me gag. I am thinking its the O-rings, but I am not sure and see what your take on it is. I was told that might cause for the engine to be rebuilt and if that is the case would I be better changing a few parts in it?

step one

drain the fuel tank and replace the fuel filter, and replace with a new filter and good fuel, and change the oil and oil filter to reduce the potential source of the problem
verify theres no sign of exhaust gases in the coolant or coolant in the oil and check and reset trouble codes

step two

replace the spark plugs
verify the timing
verify or set the TPS/IAC
throw in two totally different brands of injector cleaner in the tank,

step three
use the search feature and youll find dozens of threads on locating and curing problems

this may help

test drive the car, let me know the results

I went ahead and changed the oil and filter since i wasn't sure the last time it was changed. Someone also suggested to do a tune up on it since its over 120k miles. That helped quite a bit, but still wasn't running right to me, so took it to a local shop and had them check it out since I am not that mechanically inclined, but am trying. They found that the alternator was going bad along with the Fuel Filter and Serpentine belt. After changing that out it is running a lot better. They also told me I need to replace the front and rear shocks/struts. I don't have the money for that right now, but looking to go ahead and redo the entire suspension system, but I have the selective ride control on it and not sure if that would be a wise course or not.
