grumpy does camo work?

check with the local fish and game department regulations concerning the required blaze orange or similar laws, theres not much sense in spending big bucks on really effective camo like a ghillie suit if your required to have 500 sq inches of blaze orange above the waist and on the head like many states require.obviously it helps immensely if you know what the area you'll hunt looks like during the time frame and temps youll hunt in
if your into archery or handgun hunting camos going to be more useful than if you plan to shoot game at 400 yards with a 7mm or 300 mag.
Ive had other hunters walk past me , dozens of times, while I was wearing a good ghillie suit, who about had a heart attack when I said "hello" and they still could not make out where the voice was coming from until I moved ,even if they were 15-30 feet away/
and I've noticed I tend to see a good deal more game if I find a area with a couple low overhanging conifer branches and sit leaning under the tree against the trunk, where, I have a good view over a few hundred yards, and I'm in at least partially mixed sunlight/ shadows thus further destroying the normal human/predator outline

camo works, very effectively in some conditions, but game picks up on movement, and odor even if you use camo.
if you want too do something do the research and do it correctly, Ive had deer and elk into bayonet range dozens of times, Ive had elk feed past me at less than 40-50 yards more times than I can count, but you obviously need to get the camo correct and not move

RESULTS CAN BE GOOD IF ITS DONE CORRECTLY, BUT YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL AND REMEMBER EVERYTHING'S IMPORTANT, YOU CAN,T LEAVE THE RIFLE, YOUR FEET, YOUR HANDS OR FACE, ETC EXPOSED AND EXPECT TO REMAIN UN DETECTED,

example, this guy forgot the hands rifle and face

judge for yourself if camo properly employed makes you more difficult to locate
the key is obviously matching the terrain and proper materials, location and no movement, and ideally mixed shade and sunlight and logically locating yourself for both good observation and comfort, you need too remain close too motionless for hours

your going too sweat, too any game you stink!
use of decent camo, recently washed in a scent reducing and non-u.v. color enhancing detergent helps, Ive generally hand washed hunt clothes in dawn dish wash liquid and warm water as it dissolve body oil and sweat then air dry the clothes outside, then once dry I pour several table spoons of crushed charcoal and several table spoons of baking soda in a large zip lock bag then store the clothes in them until used, the crushed charcoal and several table spoons of baking soda absorb odor and any on the clothes surfaces also help reduce odor.
theres no way you completely eliminate odor so watch air current direction , don,t bother hunting with the wind blowing from you toward your direction of travel, use of odor and scent killer sprays can,t hurt either

Thats what is nice about hunting on my buddy's farm 300 posted acres with only a few hunters allowed and everyone knows where everyone is. We get a few trespassers every year but are usually able to run them off.

yes keeping reasonably warm and dry goes a long way toward remaining out and observant
having a hat that keeps the sun out of your eyes is, in my opinion a mandatory accessory, and slow down, be observant, your goal is NOT to get over some far canyon or ridge line, as fast as you can,
its to spot game before it sees you and vacates the area.
walking through the tree line rather than open meadows, and sitting in the shade when you can helps keep your presents less noticeable a good deal.
if your observant in spotting other hunters ,youll notice the reflective flash of light off polished stocks and barrels from great distances at times
thats why I suggest you cover those surfaces, a couple rubber bands and a mill surplus scarf help eliminate that issue

both pieces of equipment noticeably increase your ability to spot game.

a decent down vest and polar fleece hoodie under a parka sure helps on sub zero mornings

comfortable insulated boots with good ankle support and an aggressive tread are nearly mandatory
