Grumpy Still Modifying Stealth Rams?

just like the title says. I think the big block plans are on hold temporarily, I’m just trying to concentrate on getting the car back, and getting what I have into a strong state of tune. It has dart shp clones, a 300 hp 327 cam, and the stock tpi choking it. I didn’t realize until recently you were one of the sources for modded stealth rams. I’d love to a decent flowing intake that retains cruise control under a stock hood

no at this time Im no longer building those custom intakes plenums.

it was costing me more to make those than I was charging and it seemed like a good many people,
had no idea how too, nor cared to bother too,
modify the base to gain the full potential they offered,
you could easily gain 40 -90 plus hp over the stock TPI intake with the modified plenum,
a bit of porting on the lower stealthram runners like the linked photo shows and a mild cam upgrade
and swapping to better heads with 1.6:1 roller rocker and larger injectors, it was very common to get even better results on a 383-406 , with about 10:1 compression was used, if a 3200 stall converter and a hydraulic roller cam like a crane 119661 or a crower 00471 was used (heads like AFR 195cc or the BRODIX IK 200 cc work well)

thus most people were not getting anywhere near the full power/air flow potential the moded plenum provided,
without matching mods that used the full air flow rates potentially available

INSTALL ALL YOUR SENSORS AND AIR LINE CONNECTOR FITTING ON THE PLENUM,
AND THROTTLE BODY BEFORE YOU INSTALL PLENUM WITH NEW GASKETS

PORTING THE LOWER RUNNER SECTION AS IN THE PICTURE BELOW ADDS AT LEAST 15-20- HP POTENTIAL

porting the stealth-ram base and port matching the intake too the cylinder heads allowed a 300 cfm flow, its significantly less unmodified

below is a picture I took about 14 years ago, a very early proto type version on my test mule corvette 383 engine where I was testing cams with versions of the custom intake during research.

btw, if your using a stealth ram it requires a small base distributor for clearance
if your replacing a TPI intake with a tunnel ram, HOLLEY STEALTH RAM or other intake requiring a small base diam. distributor, a gen 1 sbc distributor that fits physically, into the intake can be used in most cases, it can be made to function, most guys use aftermarket remote coil distributors, but the small diam. camaro distributor works, I used a mildly modified HOLLEY 890-160 distributor
HOLLEY 890-160 distributor

the

- FIRST TPI Intake.(good choice) when properly ported and matched to a compatible cam gives you a bit better power
the crane 119661 and crower 00471 hydraulic roller cam in a 10:1-10.5:1 compression ratio 383-406 SBC

with heads that flow a MINIMUM of 250 cfm at .500 lift ,
and here a bit more flow certainly helps

THIS SELECTING DECENT HEADS IS CRITICAL
the 200cc and 210 cc brodix are decent
as are the AFR 195cc-210cc trickflow 195 cc and

230cc and PROFILER ,EDELBROCK, DART, 200cc-220cc heads
and several other heads
it makes no sense to put a decent intake and cam in any engine,
then restricting its potential with crappy stock cylinder heads

1.6:1 roller rockers, long tube headers a few flow exhaust and a 2800 rpm-3000 rpm stall converter or a manual transmission and a 3.54-3.73:1 rear gear ratio, and of course 32 lb -to 44 lb fuel injectors, (depends on combo/ components used) makes an impressive combo
