It amazing to me that some guys will have a car in some state of repair or dis-assembly tucked away as a
"IM going to get to rebuilding that car some day"
project for years even DECADES at times , who then get up some morning and decide its just not worth the effort, or the cost or the time and dump the project for a few cents on the dollar!
or conditions change, guys get transfers, divorces, or something else makes selling the car suddenly seem like a good idea!
IF your LUCKY youll find out and grab the bargain, but if your like me you tend to only find out a day late or when your flat broke!
example
I had a local guy with a 1965 GTO under a tarp in his car port for many years, I drove by almost every day and never saw the car move, you could see the tail lights and one day just to be a bit curious and hopefully to meet a fellow hot rodder I walked up to the door and knocked and asked if the car was for sale.

I was assured by an older woman that it was her husband project car that he would never part with!,I left my phone number and asked if her husband could call, as I was a fellow muscle car enthusiast, and would love to talk with him, well about a week later it was not in the drive way or car port, I assumed he was out driving but after several days I still didn,t see the car so I stopped back and knocked on the door, the lady was polite, but seemed a bit put out that I had stopped, back bye!
she said that it was obvious her husband was never going to work on the car as it had sat there for over 6 years, un touched, she called her husband at work after I had left and asked him if he was ever going to work on the car or was it for sale, he said he was planing on selling it, so she called up a local used car lot and asked if they could send someone by to give her a bid on the car as she was afraid to drive a stick shift car and the battery was dead, they told her if it was not drivable and licensed they considered a car that old scrap, and hearing that she had it towed away for scrap by a local auto salvage she found listed in the yellow pages and they paid her $70, and when here husband found out it caused a big fight!(she said he was INSANE insisting that a 40 plus year old car was worth THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS) I asked her why she had not called or given my number to her husband...she said she was not interested in talking further.

EXAMPLE
about 1973 I had a friend call me up telling me a neighbor was selling a 1969 4 speed hemi road runner because of the cost of fuel and he had his insurance cost raised, and he wanted $4000 which was a good deal of cash in 1973, I wanted the car badly but I could not swing a loan at that time, Ive always regretted not trying harder
obviously if your in the right place at the right time with a full wallet there super deals out there on occasion

I bought this Studebaker right. It had been on Craigslist for a long time and the pictures made it look way worse than it really is, finally one day I called the guy loaded the trailer and took a ride to his place. After meeting a great guy and spending some time talking with him I loaded it up and brought it home for $400. Turns out EVERYTHING is in the car. I got it home emptied it put the doors on and inventoried everything...all the stainless trim, everything is there. Great deal for $400.
