have you ever noticed how much time is wasted looking...
for the little ,easily lost or easy to forget stuff thats
required to assemble an engine,

I know Ive got damn near anything you might need,
yet lack of simple stuff always throws a wrench in the gears of progress.
I'm sure most of you have needed to stop and make several trips to the local auto parts store.
careful planing and looking over what youll need reduces that wasted time.

lets just mention SBC cylinder head to block alignment dowel pins
https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/22000/10002/-1 four cost $9

why not buy 50 for $15, and stick some in a zip lock bag
https://www.ebay.com/itm/PIONEER-SB...661946&hash=item1cc9bb5d4a:g:k00AAOSwWkFcY9g3

while your at it you could get 100 for building BBC engines $35

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-PG-233-100-Cylinder-Head-Dowels-Fit-Big-Block-Chevy-Steel-Hollow-100pc/333229778374?_trkparms=aid=555018&algo=PL.SIM&ao=1&asc=20131003132420&meid=cde9ec8cf2a04e36ad092102c77ec21d&pid=100005&rk=6&rkt=12&sd=123643583818&itm=333229778374&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

now similar deals are available if you look and shop carefully...
and your thinking,
Im never going to use 50 SBC or 100 BBC head alignment dowel/pins and your correct!
but if having a few spares saves you a couple P.I.T.A. trips to the local auto parts,
where they either don,t have them or want $5.99 EACH,
plus the time, gas and aggravation,
having a few stashed in a drawer in a zip loc bag,
with a bit of wd40 spray is a F&**ing( bargain
)
ALL I'M SUGGESTING IS IF YOU SEE A BARGAIN IN A LARGER SIZE ,
PURCHASING,IT MAKES A GREAT DEAL OF SENSE, in many cases,
TO BUY THEM AT A GOOD PRICE ,
IF YOU,VE GOT THE OPPORTUNITY,
YEAH YOU MAY NEVER USE IT ALL,
BUT IN THE LONG TERM IT MAY STILL SAVE YOU TIME AND MONEY
EXAMPLE
IVE SEEN 2 LB SPOOLS OF mig WIRE SELL FOR $17 AND 33 LB SPOOLS FOR SALE FOR $50
IVE SEE GUYS SPEND HOURS LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT SNAP RING ,
WHEN A HUGE ASSORTMENT COSTS LESS THAN THEY GOT CHARGED TO TWO.
AFTER 3 HOURS OF DRIVING.
ever have to make a trip to get a bulb, fuse, bolt, etc that effectively stops progress.

the same goes for an assortment of
fuel line fittings,
assorted grade 8 bolts
pipe plugs,
hose clamps
valve keeper,
valve seat shims
freeze plugs
zerk grease fittings
solder, wire connectors
SAND PAPER
shrink tube selections
fuses, indicator bulbs
O-rings ,
snap rings,
cotter pins,
roll pins,
various lock washers,
a selection of safety wire,
and
cans of solvent and sealants of a dozen types.

Totally agree Grumpy. That's why my basement is my own personal fully stocked hardware store.
I get a warm, fuzzy feeling every time I can just grab what I need without having to drop everything,
clean up, and run to several stores - only to come back hours later WITHOUT WHAT I NEEDED.
Then spend hours on the internet searching and ordering items that used to be easily available almost anywhere.

I agree also.. I do not have a whole lot .. but when I do go to the hardware store I usually pick up more grade 8 bolts and nuts in various sizes up to 1" in diameter.
fuel lines , clamps, ect.

Yes after years of buying more than I need or not taking things back that were wrong at the time, I
finally quite often have what I need without making a special trip.
