one of the neighbor hood kids (hes about 18) stopped by to ask me if I would be "OK" to buy a used intake manifold, for his engine build project VS paying full price for a new intakes, because he stated
"moneys a bit tight and the machine shop costs were higher than expected"
I asked him what was wrong with the current intake manifold?
and he went to his car and brought his old intake over, electrolysis, bad electrical grounding and running pure water vs antifreeze and a failure to use a couple ANODES had pretty much screwed it up!(probably well before he bought the used 1970 road runner with its 440 wedge engine,)
I smiled and asked him a question,
I said, "Ok, lets say you buy a brand new intake manifold , take it out of the box, grab a set of matching gaskets and properly install that new intake manifold, you mount your carbs, hook up your fuel lines, fire up the engine and back the car out of the garage to go for a test and tune run, the cars now moved 30 feet with that intake, IS IT NEW OR USED?"
As usual I get that deer in the headlights look for a second then a smile!
I said EXACTLY!! theres no NEW intakes on running cars theres only USED intakes, now obviously some are going to be older or in poor condition, so you need to know what your looking at,and what to avoid, to properly assess it probable value and youll need to know what fits your engine with the clearances to fit under your hood with a matching air cleaner, before you purchase any intake manifold, but hitting a few swap meets ,look on EBAY, looking in the local bargain trader or Craigs list adds and asking your friends if they have any intake manifolds fitting your particular application that they might want too sell at a decent price and in the process hopefully finding a bargain on an intake manifold, made by a well known major American manufacturer , would certainly be a route well worth considering If your short on cash!

I found these pictures on the NET but It may give you some idea what the car looks like, HIS CAR IS DARK BLUE

All my Pontiac V8, SBC , & Olds V8 intakes are used also Grumpy.
The BBC Intake for my Tall Deck 427 will be used too when I find it and buy it this year 2016. I want to hear that engine run likewise.
