Header Design Using Dynomation 6 & PipeMax 4.7

Good info!

Are the runner dimensions published by their manufacture or did someone measure them ?

I guess you are saying go up first ?
Yes. Instead of coming out at a 90* from the head, make it coming out pointing up and in a semi circle (rams horn look) all the way down to the frme or just above it so when it turns toward the rear of the car it can go inside the rear radius rod hanger.

My drawing skills suck but in this one you would be looking at the front of engine and the pipe would turn back to the rear of car at the bottom of the line and at the top of line going to the head.

OK, that's what I thought you were saying. I know the exhaust manifold you are referring to by
Ram Horn, so I was pretty sure what you were suggesting.

Yes but with individual pipes and not like the one piece cast iron ones.

Yes the original ram horn exhaust was cast iron and all dumped into the center.

Rick said he wasn't worried about the HP but more into looks as being different and not to burn the wife's legs. All other headers that are STORE BOUGHT come straight out of the head at the flange no matter the angle of the head on the block. Just for the looks I was thinking of the curl of the pipe from the head going up and out and then in a bigger curl down to where it will then turn to the rear of the car in whatever position that would accomplish his wife not getting burned. How much HP would you lose still using his way of individual pipes or 2 into 2 into 1? Maybe his calculator can come up with that figure.

My thoughts are mainly on the looks and the safety of them.

I'm sorry if I gave you that impression that HP/TQ didn't matter, like most high performance
applications they all have requirements that are contrary to performance. Being it be a physical
or a wife requirement !!! ;)

I want to broaden the torque curve, so I'm not about the PEAK TQ or HP, but making the curve
wider. I have to make the wife happy, but that does not mean I have to give up all goals of helping
the torque curve, if that was reality, then I would not be posting about my headers !!! As you know
life is a compromise.

I got the wife's approval on my latest version today. She even asked about the cost and I said " about
$2700" and she responded ....... "Merry Christmas". She also said they are more out of the way and
they would be NO problem. The originals were about 3 inches wider or outside the rear hairpins.

I know you didn't mean hp/tq didn't matter at all but just not as big a deal as the wife.

There is a happy medium somewhere in that you get new pipes and the wife saves her legs and maybe you wont lose any HP.

Am glad you finally decided and if you need another Xmas present that aint too expensive, let me know. You have a GOOD wife!!

with my corvette with side pipe exhaust, I went a marginally different route,
back in the 1960s-70s I told the wife to wear mini skirts
I bought the wife some $300 boots and constantly told her how good she looked wearing them,
that was a win/win, no more back leg burns, and she did look good that way back then.,
and yeah they need to be real reasonably substantial, leather, plastic would melt nearly instantly
keep in mind $300 back in the 1970s was big money and yeah they were high quality thick leather

That's IT !!!!!!

I am moving to Oklahoma so my wife can hang around with your wife Rick.
I am a firm believer that you are a product of your environment ... Therfore with those two hanging out together we may be able get them to free up the pocket book easier! :)

Have you bought a pair of those boots lately? Money up in smoke when the pipes hit one or both of them.

I'd rather rub her leg and make it feel all better!!

Well it looks like the high top boots are out of the question for me/wife at this time, a bit too late
for us at this time in our life ! :(

I have the next version #5 that goes outside the hairpin mount like version 4, therefore it has to
come forward like version 4 so the last collector can end before it gets into the door area.

These Tri-Y headers are off by several more inches in the primary tube length compared to
version 4. But it's so much easier to get this right when you don't have two 2-1 collectors half way
to the final collector.

For reference below is what the Original header that I have been using for over 30 years, then
the new headers.

It's never too late Rick! There is absolutly nothing wrong with a SEXY grandma at our age.
Where people get confused is when one generation is compared to another. That's not right.

Now Tell me that she is not attractive at 63 years old!!! Is she 20?.... NO... But DAMN!! :):):)

Are you making your new headers out of Stainless Steel or are you going with a mild steel and having them chromed?

They will be polished stainless steel.

SS conducts heat 10 times less than mild steel, so it's like wrapping your headers, but prettier!

My wife was never into dressing sexy, so that is part of my reasoning. Plus she doesn't look like she did when she was younger, and neither do I.

Rick, what about running 3 &5 together on the outside, the 1&7 together on the inside. Y them together at an angel away from the radius rods!
