Heat riser question

After I get done with re-installing the rear on my '72, among other parts I will be installing the new exhaust system. I was wondering if I should get rid or the heat-riser? It moves freely and not rusted, does it create any back-pressure? Can the exhaust close the gate in the heat-riser? Btw, I'm moving up to a 2.5 inch exhaust and Magnaflows. Maybe I could have saved a few bucks and used the 2" exhaust? it's still restricted to 2" at the beginning of the exhaust system anyway?

This is a car that is a barn-find that I'm making road worthy to sell. The original exhaust was shot so I installed a Corvette Central exhaust with up graded mufflers. Sure, your Idea is great but it would mean spending too much money I'll never get back.
