BTW if you have a mijnor oil leak around the distributor base youll want to verify that
you have the GASKET between the intake and distributor housing, and a decent clamp?

Grumpy, what do you think of the new MSD 6AL-2 "programmable" spark box? Evidently this allows true custom tuning of the timing curve (both mechanical and boost/vacuum-referenced) and works with a locked-out distributor. I have no particular reason to get creative with timing, but am personally curious about having such functionality at my disposal.

FROM WHAT IVE HEARD they work reasonably ok.but I don,t think ID call them truly a programmable ignition in all respects, that may even be the ignition I use on my vette,(Ill have to go look) but if it is, its main feature is it can be programed to cut the ignition at a certain rpm, if its the same as mine I set it to cut out at 6400rpm


IF your referring to the new version that's just coming out at the trade shows I don,t know anyone whos tried one yet, but it sounds darn impressive!

I was planning on using it with Summit's house-brand generic distributor (about $150 - looks like a Chinese remake of MSD, or possibly Mallory).

The software can be downloaded here: http://www.msdignition.com/page.aspx?id=6545 . I was playing with the user interface (having nothing to which to connect the laptop so far, of course!); the help-files are useless, but the software is fairly intuitive. The manual implies that to obtain vacuum advance, a MAP sensor would be required (PN MSD 2311), to plug into the spark control box (not just a simple vacuum hose!). The display is in terms of absolute pressure, 2-15 PSIA - so that should be fine for a naturally-aspirated system, which is all that I plan to run.
 
thanks for the info, Ill look into that as it seems to be a rather promising developement in ignitions
 
Ive been talking to alot of racers about it but no one yet ive found is using it, but I expect that to change
