I obviously don,t know how all the members feel, but I really like to help teach the younger guys that are willing to learn , or guys that are having minor problems, to learn how to repair an tune their cars.I see guys ask questions and when given links to the info, they obviously fail to read thru or use that info.
if you need help? post questions and let us know where your located, in most cases theres several local guys that might be very willing to lend a hand on projects and make new friends, if your willing to help on their projects
its a bit frustrating to read posts where guys are having tuning, set up or component adjustment or trouble shooting issues or problems that you know you could solve for them in short order if they were located close by, or watch guys put together a combo of mis -matched parts and get that deer in the head lights stare when they are, clueless why things won,t function.
now being retired helps with the time issue but it certainly has put a huge crimp in cash flow so when I read about guys making obvious choices based on cost vs whats best I totally understand where they are coming from, but in many cases I see guys basically grabbing just about anything that will bolt together , and assembling a car, then trying to make it work, thats some what understandable from a budgetary stand point in the short run , but because it almost always results in the need to replace components and do double or triple the work it may not be the best route to take.
after many years and hundreds of cars you tend to notice trends and the one thats rather obvious is that most of us work on very limited budgets and projects can take months or years to complete., you need to set a realistic goal, and stick too it, and not go for whats fast or easy vs what you really want to have once your done.
If you really want a big block 460 ford powered COBRA KIT CAR any time or effort or money spent on the old mustang and its current small v8 is effectively subtracted from that big block COBRA KIT CAR goal.
one common problem I see all the time is guys that need to have their hobby car as daily transportation, yet want to do extensive mods, I can tell you from experience thats rarely going to work out, its best to have an engine stand, a spare engine , tools and at least a limited place to work and a dedicated hot rod car thats not used as daily transportation, even if that means it will take you extra time and money to do so, in the long run you'll save money, time and constant stress having a dedicated TOY that you don,t depend on for transportation or need to license and insure all the time
