HEY GRUMPY?, I was trying to get the trans lined up, got in a hurry, and over tightened a mount bolt, Can it be fixed by a good alloy welder?

sounds like the converter was NOT fully engaged and fully seated into the trans to me, on most trans, seating the converter you feel two distinct clicks and in seats further into the splines each time
"The center of the converter and the center hole in the crank is a VERY tight fit - perhaps I all shall use some sandpaper there ??"
yes! this is fairly common, youll want to clean the converter hub and the crank recess carefully and measure BOTH for the correct clearance.

given enough time and engines, we all screw up occasionally, think of this as a learning experience, and yes thats a fairly cheap and easy repair , if you don,t own a decent tig welder thats one more in an endless list of reasons for every advanced hot rod hobbyist, to own and have the skills to use a TIG WELDER
