Hi everyone ....

Quick question how can I get a Gen 1 to rev like an LSn without going to solid lifters? Or can I? I am not worried about the rotating assembly...just the lifters. Seems like the upper limit with hydraulics is about 6200 rpm give or take a few revs?

Cheer!

your correct! the normal limit for gen I sbc with hydraulic lifters will be around 6200-6400rpm UNLESS a rev kit is installed and adding one generally only adds a few hundred extra rpm and more valve train wear.
Ive NEVER been a fan of hydraulic lifters,in a high rpm engine, I vastly prefer solid lifters if you want a high rpm engine combo, and the issue of adjusting lash occasionally is just not a big price to pay for an extra 1000-or more rpm of valve train stability, but shaft rockers, better valve train components like springs, roller rockers, can help.
keep in mind there are differences in quality and lifter design and getting the valve train geometry set up correctly helps a great deal.
use of stud girdles, or shaft rockers and fast bleed down lifter designs tend to add additional rpms
