Hi from Germany

I installed new exhaust tips. We had too much exhaust fumes inside the car. The trunk sealing is new but seals not completly.
It looks ok for me. Too shiny at my opinion, maybe I will paint it black.

If it was mine Id never paint it black, Id polish that set of exhaust tips and bumper,
chrome to a mirror finish, and Id have pulled the fuel tank and sprayed that ,
with a good silver rust preventative automotive paint after sanding it smooth.
obviously its NOT my car and your free to do as you please but generally,
the cleaner, and newer, a car looks ,
and the more well cared for it appears to be,
the more people tend to admire, or value it.
especially if its obviously an antique in many peoples minds,
like that 62 year old chevy, that now hard to find in good condition.

A friend of me has a '71 Buick Riviera 455 Stage I Boat tail, this car has these exhaust tips original and not shiny. For me it looks better not shiny because the shiny tips attracting too much. I like it more the sleeper way / reserved. I am not the biggest fan of chrome, except bumpers, grille and some interior. You will never find a chromed part on my engines or other stuff. Same with polished parts, on an engine you need cooling and the rough surface ist better for cooling than the polishes shiny surface.

A friend did a test years ago with chromed oil pan, valve covers, timing chain cover and a polished intake. The engines had 10° celcius more temperature than the same engine without chromed parts. The main parts for the increased temp where the oil pan and the intake.

On the other side I don't like rat rods or cars that looking rat. Patina is ok but not too much and never fake patina. We have some so called hot rods here in Germany with fake patina, the owners think this way it looks more old school / traditional. They are wrong, if the car is an old survivor and has patina I will do thumbs up, but not that way.

I friend gave me a hint with the exhaust tips, instead of paint I will try matting it a bit with fine sandpaper or similar items.

while a rather common modification to a dual plane intake manifold is done by removing an inch of the divider wall in the plenum, this will generally result in a bit more upper rpm air flow and as a result it can provide the engine a bit more, power as a result,
its generally a better option too simply install an open spacer under the carburetor if the hood clearance allows you too do so,to test out this option,on your application,

as its a far easier to reverse that modification if you find you don,t like the new slightly lower throttle response,
off idle ,crispness that also commonly results from the more open plenum design.

Yes Grumpy you are right, but I am planning to use 2x 1/2" Spacer, one with 4 holes und one with divider. There is no space to use a third one.

Another thing I did.
Painted it black and sanded the rips out.

Happy new year to all.
My last visit in the garage in 2017 was to modifiy the MSD distributor. I changed the vacuum can, put a 18° stop bushing in it and changed the springs. Now I have the two blue springs in, but they are too fast, so I have to chenge the magain to one heavy silver and a blue one.

ow I have the two blue springs in, but they are too fast,

Good to see you are back with us for 2018.

What made you decide it was too fast with the 2 blue springs!

I had the module fail on me last summer, motor would not get over 2400 rpm.

The total timing is at around 2.700 rpm now, but 3.200 - 3.300 rpm would be better. When I look on the spring chart from MSD, the mix of one heavy silver and a blue one would be what I want.

The new carb arrived. It looks nice. I'm waiting for two parts before I can bolt it on the engine. I hope I can bolt it on next week.

congratulations that looks like a nice quality addition

I installed a adjustable proportional valve. I hope the car is stopping better now. It is too wet and cold to do a test drive.

My daughter helped me bleeding the brake system. Now I have 500 psi to the rear brakes, I hope that's enough.

I played a bit with the new carb, tried the substack and installed the fuel feeding line.
