Hi from Germany

It happens .
Tear it down.
Pay attention to the old headgaskets and look where they failed at.
Often light detonation or heavy detonation makes head gaskets fail.
Old age also.

The cooling was heating up very fast, I had a lot of pressure in the system and the last step was a test with a special liquid. You are sucking the air from the coolant inside the tester and the liquid will change the colour if there is exhaust gas in the coolant.

The engine is running great again. After cleaning everything and new head gaskets everything ist fine. I got 4 inHg more vacuum since rebuild. No exhaust in coolant anymore. I didn't see any big failure, I think it was a small crack in one head gasket.

I had to re-jet the AED carburetor, now 68 main jets in pri side and 75 in sec side. The Power Valve is a 9.5. I didn't touch the air bleeds. IFR is 33.
After all that the only thing that was too rich was WOT, i got 10.8 - 11.1 AFR. So I asked AED which size the PVCR is, the told me 55. That was way too big.
I know a good starting point is half the size of the pri main jet.
So I drilled and tapped the channel, so I can screw 6/32 jets in. After testing the 35 jet size was the best. I got 12.7 - 13.0 AFR at WOT.

Mechanic I didn't had the time to rewire the car with new battery cables, so the Alternator ist still not in the car. This is one of my winter projects.

great posted info, and Im glad every thing worked out so the engines running better

I did something similar, drilling about 20 different passages in a new Demon carb, nice work !

Any other project other than the alternator in the plans for this winter?

Hi Rick, maybe converting the mechanic fuel pump system to a electric one. I'm not happy with the mechanical "high" volume pump.
Othe than that I helping out a friend, he will bring his 56 Cadillac over to me and I will see to get his new engine running and maybe helping another friend at his '30 Ford Coupe Hot Rod to rewire the whole car.
