Hi! New to the forum. Working on a BBC swap on a 1994 corvette.

Yes, I know I’m most likely insane, but I’m working on an engine swap for my 94 Vette convertible. I’ve seen so many LT1s with superchargers, LS swaps, and 383 strokers. I’m already big into the build and doing some pretty cool one-off type mods with a great builder here in Indiana. I’ve always wanted to do things a bit different and am wanting to do a BBC swap. My wife doesn’t want me to have anything (blower) sticking out of the hood. But I’ve seen just a few big block swaps and I’m planning on a “mild” swap. Maybe 450-500hp. This isn’t a drag car and will never be on a track. But it’s my weekend play car and yes I plan to show it for fun.

My builder doesn‘t really want to do a swap unless it’s an LS1 and basically wants to charge me $8k to add a cam, swap out injectors, new msd ignition, and new ecu and dynontune it. I’m good with spending up to $15k for the engine swap. Am I that out of line? I’m just wanting something everyone else doesn’t have and am not finding much support for the Lt1.

Here is a link to an extensive thread on the subject of swapping a BBC into a C4 Vette. This might help, plus Grumpy (among others) is well versed in the subject as well. => the c4-bbc engine swap
I had a C5 years ago and when I bought it I thought it would be a gas hog and a rough ride, but it was neither of those. Sold it to get back into drag racing…

Thanks Kenny! I’ve had a lot of guys complain about modifying a vette…frankly I could never understand why they wouldn’t want to? It’s a great car but I’ve always wanted a hotrod and now I’m going to have it! I’ll checkout that thread. Thanks!

Hi Grumpy and of course everyone else. Something that occurred to me today I’m not seeing covered in the article. (Extremely extensive actually!)

Is the fact that this is going into a 94 “convertible” instead of a coupe a consideration? I’m seeing mention of rollcage and I’m going a quite conservative 500ish HP. Is the fact this is for a ragtop open up a whole new can of worms?

no! the convertible has a marginally stronger frame design, but no major issues
