you might not know this but its not uncommon for cam manufacturers to have production over runs, and cams that they occasionally sell at clearance price sales, so it pays to ask if theres any place you can look at a list of whats available.
your selection will be very limited in most cases but if they happen to have something you can use, well you save a few buck$
Ive seen CROWER, CRANE, AND ISKY occasionally have sales Im sure others do too!, but in some cases they don,t advertize you need to ask or rarely shop at the manufacturers location

Re: how many guys bother to check out the various clearance

I know Crower has clearance sales monthly Grumpy. I subscribe to their Newsletter.
Wasn't aware Crane Cams & Isky did the same. Have to look & subscribe too.

Re: how many guys bother to check out the various clearance

Crane Cams & Isky only do it rarely, but when Crane was located here in hallendale the store would occasionally have a bargain bin type sale where you could pick up over stock items and Ive seen ISKY advertize the same type of thing in the past occasionally so it never hurts to ask!
you might be surprised but if you ask many suppliers and manufacturers they will occasionally have deals on customer returns, warranty returns, production over runs or various other stock thats generally not first run , items for sale, I at one time had a chevy parts manager as a friend, that would sell me engine cores from dealership ,warranty work at a significant discount, and new crate engines at the employee discount price.
I also found that some manufacturers re-label some parts under a different brand name and sell them at a discount.

crane used to sell some common crane cams under a discount as blue race cams

I am going to pay attention more to Crane Cams now that they are back Grumpy.
They had some Unique Pontiac Race Cam profiles in the past.
Push to 750-800 HP with production Iron heads.

Re: how many guys bother to check out the various clearance

as a peppy upgrate for my lt1 i may just have to drop this guy in there.... for 70 bucks? cant beat that...

its on the overstock items list as having 20 on hand

i've got a question tho... when they say gross valve lift do they mean with the factory 1.5 rocker arm ratio? because at .503 with 1.5 will put me around .53x with 1.6rr wouldnt it?

Re: how many guys bother to check out the various clearance

my vette has 149k miles on it so it would probably be a good idea to upgrade the valvesprings too, huh?

yeah! at 149K its DUE! for a valve spring, and valve seal, refresh, in fact why not give it a complete rings, bearings gaskets and valve job refresh if you feel up to tearing it down.

Re: how many guys bother to check out the various clearance

on that note, have any of you ever done a cam swap on a c4 with the engine in the car? i have an lt1 so i have the added ass pain of my optispark needing removal. this would be a first for me and any tricks, tips, or special tools required would be much appreciated.

Re: how many guys bother to check out the various clearance

Ive done it several times, but pulling the radiator and hood, and all the other stuff required too allow the cam clearance, and reasonable access to work on the engine fairly easily, and allow the cam too fully exit the block with the engine still partly installed in the car, is just as much or more effort, as it is to pull the engine and do the cam swap that way, either way your looking at a long day or a weekend two day job, its not all that difficult if you don,t break any bolts off but its time consuming.
if you do decide to pull the engine be darn sure to support the transmission and remove the opti crap carefully as its easy to break.

yea i thought it would make for a pretty long crappy process... however im pretty sure i can pluck the motor from its perch without removing the hood... once out i can finally see where that stupid oil leak is sourced
