I have to wonder, how many of you guys actually took the effort to properly fit your rifle, so its lining up properly.
not having your rifle stock correctly fit you personally is a bit like randomly grabbing and slapping on a a set of boots and expecting to run a couple miles without having any problems, if your feet are size 12EE, your certainly not going to perform to your full potential trying to fit your feet in a pair of size 10 boots, or a set of 14 either.
most guys never give this a second thought, but it does make a noticeable difference in how fast and accurately you shoot in thick timber on running game at close ranges... enough that it could be the difference between a trophy and not filling a tag.
the links below may help, but if you have any experience you know you find some rifles that just FIT and feel natural while others take a good deal of you adjusting your hold to even begin to get a proper sight picture.
most guys may think this is far more critical with a shotgun but its of similar importance with a rifle if its to be used effectively in the thick timber on moving game.

it should be obvious that stock length can be changed by cutting or adding spacers and recoil pads, dimensions B&E in the diagam above,
can be increased with various stock cheek pads,
if thats required to get proper eye to sight alignment

I was over at a friends home where he showed me a marlin 45/70 lever action, rifle he had recently purchased from a local pawn shop,
it was rather obvious the length of pull or shoulder stock had been shortened by at least an inch,
I measured it and got about 13 "
this must have been modified for either a woman or kid of less than average height,
it was obvious he would need to add at a minimum, a thick recoil pad to get the length of pull back into the manageable range, or buy a replacement stock.
but at the price he paid the added $150 for a new stock, would not be a huge addition to the rifle cost so while it was no longer a "SMOKEN DEAL" it was still reasonable.
similar too this picture I found

most of my rifles have a thick recoil pad added to get the proper length of pull I find fits me correctly, which tends to be about 14.75"
throwing the rifle to your shoulder should line up the sites well, a cheek pad might be required with use of a scope, to raise you head for proper alignment,
now you may not think you have the slightest issue with your current rifle,
a quick test, place a small object like a coke can on the opposite side of the largest room you have access too,
move to the opposite wall, with the rifle at waist level, stare at the target, a few seconds, close your eyes , rapidly snap the rifle to your shoulder, and point at the target,... only now, open your eyes, if the sights are not pointing at the target or damn close too it, chances are very good the rifle fits incorrectly.

one fact thats in his favor is that new replacement stocks are easy too come up with and reasonably cheap too buy!

you can cut stocks to shorten the length of pull, add recoil pads or stock spacers too add length, or compensate for the extra length of a rifle stock with a thicker rifle pad by removing material if thats required,

if you do a web search most popular rifles have several different stock designs available
