I’m Seriously Thinking Of One Last Project Car

I think I have it in me . . . . . . .

In 1980 I was going bonkers over this car, a 1980 Z/28. I had spending money back then and actually had bought 3 of these (not all at once) in different colors. Today, I guess it’s about reliving a better times.

The 1968 holds a special interest for me. One just like this was on a Chevy dealer’s lot in ‘77. It was a 4 spd 327 just as it rolled out the factory floor. It belonged to a classmate’s older brother, he must have traded it in for something else. The dealer wanted $1,600 and at the time it just as well have been 1.6 million because I was short $600 for car insurance and my parents wouldn’t help me out. I would have worshiped them if they did, I really was nuts over this car! Ironically I did restore one of these years ago, but I needed money and a guy crazier than me bought that car just as I was nearly finished. It’s been the story I repeated for nearly 40 years.

I know, the last one is a 67 but I actually like the looks of a 67 over a 68. GM must have been rushed to bring these to market because 68s had many improvements under the skin as opposed to the 67s.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
I hope the build works out well,
and does not cost you a good deal of cash in the process.

personally..I always thought the second gen camaros left a good deal to be desired.
(yeah, many people preferred the 2nd gens)
I always considered the 375hp 396 BBC 1969 camaro the best looking pony car ever

Im sure there are some things we will agree look exceptionally nice

I love 69s, a 69 Z/28 with RS option was one of my favorites when I was a teenager, it’s the ‘68 that has the story I’ve held for these many years.
There were 5 cars that meant the world to me at 16 and no matter how hard I worked, I never made enough and probably more importantly I didn’t know enough how to get the price down and finance. No one ever taught me to bargain a price down, I thought the sticker price was it.
1967 GTO
1967 442
1967 Chevelle 396
1967, 68 and 69 Camaro 302 and 396
1970 Challanger R/T 440
And lastly, a 1967 Fairlane GT or GTA with the BBF (2nd gen Camaros came a few years later)
I had an obsession over these cars that lasted to this day.

yeah I always liked the 1967 GTO , 1967 fairlanes with the 390-427 BBF and 1970 hemi cudas

I’m on the look out for a 2nd gen Camaro that has a significant amount of work already done. At this same time I’m game on for a 1st gen that is 90% plus to 100% done finished. Of course my hunt for a luxury dd will likely kill one or both Camaro projects

The 67 Fairlane GTA is identical in color to the rust bucket I owned in 1977. The 1980 Camaro in Claret, Gold strips and tan interior is a twin to one I owned in 1980.

This pandemic isn’t helping me raise funds for buying anything right now. While my wife is the only income now, I’m cut off from buying anything she does’t want. I got “our” tractor because I made a case for really needing it. Right now I’m limited to just buying tools that I need.

Oh, I may add that the pictured 67 442 was bought as a fluke. This was my second and purchased while on vacation in Singer Island, FL many years ago. The old man that owned it restored it on his own and replaced banged up and rusted parts with a donor car, a special ed “Holiday” model. He could weld, but could not restore shape to dents without using obscene amounts of Bondo. He couldn’t fix the dented hood, roof and trunk lid vandalized by Lake Worth’s fine youth groups (Palm Beach residents would know of my reference).
I actually discovered this was a 442 in disguise after seeing the original paperwork “after” buying it. The seller thought the badges identified a lower valued model like the F-85.
It was finished by Thortons in Perkasie PA and sold at B/Jackson before I drove it 100 miles.

I would take any one of them and be very happy I would love to have another 70 mach 1 with the 428CJ I would take better care of this one or a first Gen Mustang a Hemi Cuda I don't think that the list has an end because there were so many great cars back then its an endless dream

712A2134-250A-46F4-B608-389D672E1C2E.jpeg I’m giving up the idea of playing with another restoration. I am however very interested in finding a car from my earliest driving years - a 1967 Ford Fairlane GT or GTA with a big block 390 HO or better.
I had one, ‘67 GTA HO390 in beautiful Red like the one pictured above. It was straight and that’s about all it was. Paid about $350 to $500 from a boy I went to high school with. It leaked oil profusely smoked like a mosquito fogger and rust everywhere.

We’re only talking about a 10 year old car (considering it was about 1977-78 at that time) those cars didn’t hold up at all compared to today.
If anyone reading this can check out (be on the look out) for one of these in decent condition, please let me know.

This looks like a Chevy Nova (if it had single headlights). I’m better off finding a great car at auction before any street deal. People just don’t get buying at auctions. I bet a private offer (seller’s offer) would be in the $50K range. Than they turn around and take $22 at the auctions. If I seen that once I’ve seen it hundreds of times
