I got asked to help supervise on a c4 corvette fuel pump replacement,
I got over to the guys home and he shows me the new fuel pump he ordered,
he says he knows its a defective fuel pump because it shows 40 psi on the fuel rail,
but
"if you push the throttle down and hold it at 3000 rpm, the fuel pressure rapidly drops off,
until you let the engine idle for a few seconds,
and the car runs like crap if you try too accelerate"
I ask him how long its been since he changed out the existing fuel filter?
I get that deer in the head lights look!
he admits hes NEVER even seen where the fuel filter is,
and its a 1988 corvette...
thats over 31 years on the same fuel filter if the original corvette owner,
had not changed it!

well before I help him change the fuel pump , and I , had him take a quick trip up to the local NAPA store and get a new fuel filter ,
and we changed out the fuel filter, which cured his issues
yes I helped change the fuel pump.
the fuel filter on many c4 corvettes is located under the car , near the frame on the passenger seat/ foot well area

having a set of jack stands a floor jack, multi meter, fuel pressure gauge and a shop manual goes a long way towards helping you resolve problems

He is the kind of person that assumes it is one thing when it actually is something else. ASS-U-ME Not test and verify anything as with most people who have money and no mechanical brains at all.
