I need a good reason not to buy this . .

Looks like Pontiac made 241,000 Catalinas in 1968 - but only 7,330 were convertibles.

It looks like there's 2 radios?
They did not cut up the dash to install a late model Radio, XM, DVD, Ect.....very Good.
Some Pontiac dashes near impossible to find today.
Early Mint Trans Am Dashes can bring $2,000- $4,000 for example. Recovered repops never the same as Pontiac had. All experts like me can spot them.

I imagine most of these rusted out, destroyed or parts skeletons in junk yards. I can certainly upgrade the chrome. I'll call the guy tomorrow. He says he won't sell for $10,000 - I wonder if $10,300 would fly? (Just thinking outloud) What's it worth, reasonably, after most defects are taken care of?
$8,500 Lowball.
Might insult him.
Go back then to 10,300.
Find an area you dont like let him know.
Negotiate in the middle.
Pontiac guys are not stupid.
Know they are faster than most Chevies.

Figure around 1,000- 2,000 maybe left.
A couple Dozen or so clean as the example you found of the 1968 Catalina 400 ci Convertible.
Bodywork looks pretty nice from pictures.
Complex body lines can not be duplicated in Bondo.
Looks to be all steel still or very close....Excellent for East coast & Midwest car.
You move up to $50,000- $10,000,000.00 Super star Muscle cars next Richard.

He is trying to get GTO Prices and its not.
Nice Lemans though.
Priced $15,000-20,000 Too High.
GTO Real Deal Adds $20,000 Easily .
I must agree with you here. You can easily find a number 3 driver '66 GTO convertible at Mecum's or for sale in Hemmings for under $45,000. A much more rare '67 convertible GTO with PHS docs and #2 driver is 15 minutes away for $50,000.
Personally I would never consider a clone except under rare circumstances. Mecum had a '69 Trans Am clone for $50,000, they also had a '69 Camaro ZL-1 COPO for $82,000. I wouldn't have hesitated a New York second over those deals and gladly bought them.
That Lemans may get $20,000 if was a #1 driver, with all the GTO pieces and an LS engine, but collectiblity is still a "D" at best!

I've had more than a dozen cars (net value over $100,000) in the past 15 years and I don't want them any more. I wasn't driving them, had all kinds of problems mechanically as a result. I had a warehouse to store them and even though I was in an upscale area, it was still a target for breaking into now and then. Insurance was high, electric for heat and air was through the roof!

I talked to the seller tonight. Going to check it out tomorrow at noon.
He says he's got $13,500 into it and has some garage do all the work. Says he might wiggle a little bit on the price but not much as he already priced it low.

There is only one '68 convertible in Hemmings for sale about $10,000, I found one other on the Internet for about $15,000. (Dull and drab looking color). Lots of coupes and sedans, no convertibles.

I like cars that I can drive without worry, not a lot of money to loose when I get tired of it and sell off. It's best when I find something that's a bit under priced and easy stuff on the fixing list. However, it's difficult to find theses cars when as you say Br. "I'm picky."

The Pontiac V8 is such a Wonderful engine.
I have a hard time understanding why swap with a LS Or SBC Or BBC Engine.
It does or can out perform nearly all with the Stock Block, Crankshaft, Connecting Rods, Oil Pan, Windage Tray, Cast Iron Cylinder Heads, Intake manifold, Q-jet Carb or Tri Power & often with stock Hi Po Factory exhaust manifolds.
Caught up in the Magazine, Internet , & TV Shows that Never ever truly Drag Or Street Race. All a Staged Comedy Show to Me.
Just Ffffnnning GAY CRAP.

You Still Have the 1969 428 HO 390Hp with 1966 Tripower Richard ?
You didn't dump that did You ?

I just sent out the 428 block out to be inspected and prepped for rebuild. The heads went to another shop and due back this week. I sold the Tripower, I couldn't resist the $3,250 (including carbs) offered, besides so many guys were telling me one great single 4V would be easier to tune in then balancing 3 carbs. I know, not true for someone who knows better but since I had no one -

I came so close to getting a '65 GTO to put the 428 in but it was too much work for the body and rusted through and throughout the frame. Then I wanted this '72 Ventura to shoehorn the 428 but I could only get a bill of sale and no title so that deal failed.

At least You have the 428 still Richard.
Any Carb of 750-800 Cfm will work nice dialed in. The Original Q-jet for the 1969 428 HO work best for You & Factory Intake.
Pontiac Tripowers are hard to dial in.
I stagger Jet them.
Widebands O2 sensors don't help dialing in. Confuses worse.
Drive and read each spark plug.
Too hard to explain in words.
I can do it.

All in Due Time.
Hire Me Dammit.

The seller has a number 3 driver '63 Nova Wagon, a #3, '63 Red Ford Gallaxy 500 convertible w/ 3 on the tree, and a #3, '74 Lincoln Town car.

But never works on his own stuff instead sends it to a service garage. He did give me receipts for many repairs. The power convertible top motor was replaced, a tune up, brakes and heater core replaced. Oil change was just done weeks ago.
