I need help finding an OBDII Reader/analizer ect.

I'm looking for a reader that tells you what the problem is not just a generic code. I would like to turn off the ABS and Engine Service lights after the problems are fixed or replaced. Real time data from fuel/air mixtures, o2 senors ect. on a laptop would be great. I saw something from AutoEngineuity but it's like $1,300 plus - do I really need to spend that much?

Well i use the innovate motorsports LM-2 it do read log and display in realtime the OBD-II data on its own display and also on a usb equipped computer, it also read and give a description of OBD-II trouble code and can clear them, but it do not has any function for the ABS. it about 400$
It also has a wideband o2 sensor(much more accurate for air/fuel ratio mixture reading) but you can take the reading from the OBD-II computer, it also have other analog input if you add sensors.(it works for OBD-II car and also for non-computer older car if you add/wire the sensor"use it on my camaro to log rpm, map/tps, o2").

Ive NEVER used this but have two friends that have and both guys seem to think its a good tool, just read carefully you might need to check your lap top compatibility or need a custom cable, Im not really good with computers, Im trainable, but hardly skilled in that area

This program must be used with an OBDII interface (scan tool) IM not sure what that means other than the connecting cable I just remember the guys talking about using the soft ware and being impressed

Ive also been playing with a friends scanner, for OBDII (1996 and newer cars)
it works with a down loaded app on your blue tooth comparable I-phone/I-pad without a connecting cord, it seems to work reasonably well
and its only $100.00 so its priced lower mid range

just did some mroe reading, for obd-II only i think he just need the dashdaq, not the zt-2. still its best to read before buy to make sure it do the function you want.

That might be above my head. I'm just looking for a way to find if trouble codes come up, what it means and description of the problem. Also, when the ABS light comes on I would like to know what parts are in question like a wheel sensor vs. a control module (or something like that). Oh and turn the "ABS" dash light off when I fix the problem. I don't know what a reasonable price is for these things. I see readers from $100 to $2500 (more if it says Snap-On, Mac or Matco on the box). It would really tick me off to find out later I spent hundreds more than I had to spend.

i did a quick search for what your looking for
Innova 3160(apparently this one is cheap many people like it but it lack some function to turn on/off live stuff(only high end equipment have those function at high price).. but do the job well for reading/clearing abs code and obdII code)

AutoEngineuity and OTC make some high end(more expensive) scanner that apparently are the pro stuff.

Otherwise there is the Tech2. i know usually snap-on make good product but i hear too many people that has issue with they scan tool(innacurracy/incompatibility or other stuff).
 
I found what I believe is a good deal. I bought the Tech 2 for Windows, $329 at Amazon.com, Data port cable $79.95. Since the Tech 2 is limited to GM products. I also bought Actron $199.95 (for all the other cars and reads ABS codes). Free S&H, no sales tax.
 
please post pictures and a detailed report on how it function,s,
then try disconnecting a few sensors and USE THE SCANNER TOO see if the scanner indicates the problem correctly
while you do the testing on the disconnected sensors take notes,and also use a multi meter to test voltage and ohms resistance on connectors and sensors,having listed the results on correctly working and disconnected sensors, and having been listed what the voltage and resistance and trouble codes that result from that testing will come in very handy later as a reference

Update: The Tech 2 Windows works good once it's web-updated. The Actron is a turencaseded in plastic! Although it's OBDII the Actron doesn't seem to like many cars between 96 and 2004. It says that the ABS and SRS trouble lights can be deleted but it cannot. Customer service says it will, just depends on what make and model car (the tech cannot say which ones.) There is a load of ghost-codes - codes that have no definition either by Actron or the Internet (and the makers). I was given a bogus code (14) on perfectlyly good code-free car - guess I'll try the Inovas CP 9580B. All i want is a reader with data base, ABS & SRS DTC with the ability to turn off the trouble lights. Around here you cannot pass statinspectingon with a check engine, service due, or oil change light on. reset charges are $75 to $200 plus the fix of the problem. In the past I could pull the battery connections and kill the lights but that's not working for the ABS.
